I was told that in order to work on the transmission in the new Ford F-250s you have to remove the cab and set it aside. I'm going to call the dealer, but anyone heard of this? Hope not.

If we're talking about the 03-07 6.0L, its All lies. You can do pretty much whatever you want to the engine with the cab on the truck..from R+R of the motor, to heads and studs. The transmission isn't that bad to get down either...You'll need a medium length 9/16 or 14mm socket to get the flexplate bolts out.

I have never done any work on tranny in a ford truck, But I've been under plenty. Also changed a T-5 in a 88 mustang GT. So unless you're going at it from the under side how could you possibly reach the tranny without either pulling the motor or lifting the cab.

That's how you are supposed to do it. From under the truck.

Transmission come out underneath without removing the cab......

Engine work on the other hand if its' the 6.0l and doing head gaskets it is best with cab off.... Not a bad job to do by lifting the cab. We have replaced 6.0l engines with the cab left on..... 6.4l engines require cab off for most work, especially turbo/injector work:(

I just had my 06, 6L diesel in for an oil leak on the bed plate. I was there to have a look at the truck and they did not lift the cab to take the engine out. Everything came off the front and then the engine was taken out the front as well.

No cab off, don't even see how that would help. just had a torqshift six (the new trans)out of a 6.7L not fun by any means but no need whats so ever to pull the cab. its no diff than any other trans.

If the tech has had cabs off and is good at it, then it is way easier to get the engine out with the cab off, everything is right there.
