It doesn’t seem like the chip shortage is affecting factory orders, at least not in my case. I ordered a new pickup in July, and got confirmation from the dealer it’ll be here by month end, maybe a 2 week delay from pre Covid times. Fully loaded 3500 Limited...

The chip issue is raising havoc on the heavy truck market. As of Sept 15 Kenworth and Peterbilt stopped taking orders on new trucks. Salesmen dont have pricing and factory wont allow any orders. Local Kenworth salesman said he has been told that he will only be allocated 12 build spots in 2022 so be wise how you use them. Trucks that were previously ordered with an expected arrival date of Nov 2021 will now be approx May-June 2022

Peterbilt has lowered production from 180 units a day to 100 and wont increase until the parts supply problem is eliminated. Because of the drop in production those with trucks on order have been pushed back months.

I ordered a new truck on March 5, it showed up last week. Usually takes 3 months from time of order till delivery date.

Heavy equipement is the same, not just from chips but everything. Cat told us a new telehandler would be Q3 or Q4 2022 delivery if everything went perfectly, but more likely beginning of 2023. Genie is almost the exact same timeline for new manlifts.

The effects of this are going to be felt for years. We're just seeing the primary effects now, wait until constuction on all projects starts getting delayed because contractors can't get the equipment needed to complete the work.

Ford dealership owner told me yesterday that all those vehicles at Kentucky a motor Speedway are almost gone. Most of those units are sold and in owners hands already

We have a new Cat 349 excavator on order with finning. It was supposed to be here in July. They’re telling us now late October/early November. We shall see. Equipment sales and rentals are nuts right now.
