Would it be worthwhile to do a viper and throw some updates on it? What are the main differences between a turbo viper and a sidewinder? Just wondering if you could save a bit that way.

Depends if you hate yourself or not?

Sidewinder handles more like a two stroke, viper handles like a lumber wagon.

If you can get past the lumber wagon part you can save some big bucks. Just don't buy the vipers with the PWC engines in them as they have weak rods.

What makes the sidewinder handle so much better? Aren’t they built on the same chassis and have different frontends? Forgive me for all the questions I don’t have much knowledge when it comes to the Yamaha stuff. I’m just interested to see what has changed so much?

I thought the same thing but you would have to ride one to believe it for yourself.
I don't know the science on it but it has to do with how the motor is positioned in the chassis, the center shock is able to carry alot of the weight and the new 36" a arm kit. And no turbo lag.

And you can save alot that way.
I bet you could pick up a very low mile turbo viper for $5-7k.

You obviously drink your doolaide and wear your yellow blinders. First off a new Turbo sidewinder is about 18.5-19 and many people are riding them in the tight trees. They are no longer a point and shoot sled, this being said neither of my turbo's are set up for pulling chutes. I love to ride deep powder and they definately shine there.

Ya I could see spending $5000 on one for mods (power and preference wise), but really only skis need an upgrade for handling IMO on the Sidewinder. He's so pro in the world of sledding Yamaha probably gave him one free and he sent it back after a short trail ride saying this thing sucks and was not up to the task of his riding ability. He also probably figured something was wrong when he did the whole trail ride and never blew a belt LMFAO

Stock for now, I had never tried the new skis before so I thought I would give them a chance but even though they are much better than the previous ones they still arent as good as SLP mohawks or grippers, Ill probably have a set of Mohawks on before the season is out

I want to know how you spend 5 grand as well, resonator $350, flash $765, lightweight battery $350, clutching $270, boost gauge/pod $200, muff pot $25, mountain addiction bag rails gas can $400, riser $80, cold air intake $290. Of all this we will say $1600 ish is related to sidewinder performance parts the rest would overlap on any other machine. Think I paid $19,500 late in 2016 so $21000 gets you set up with 230hp up top factory turbo turn key and go sled. What's a stock 165 850 going for today? 17,000?

Skid for sure. stock the sled over powers it . Shocks 174 then all the crap to make 300hp . Ok 27k still lots of money and yes i rode one in mtn and yes i have a apex . Not saying i dont like the sled i think it will be great just hate track skid shocks and the weight. As soon as i got on it all i could think or is my old apex. Have fun in bottom of a creek. 4 strokes still just to heavy.

I was on a 13XM doo 154 and went to a 17 sidewinder 162 3”

Couldn’t be happier I’m not a big guy by any means at 5’6 170 but this sled is easy to ride, turn key and go, 200+ hp and reliable! Only have about 400 Kim’s on it but man are they amazing out of the box! Easy to sidehill, don’t ever hesitate to play in th creeks and trees, and plenty of power to climb! And as for dumping money on mods, 3/4 of us idiots all enjoy modding our sleds to personal liking wether it be fa flash, Intake, suspension, whatever floats your boat. But yamaha gets a from me
