Bass Pro is following Martin Truex to Gibbs. Multi year deal for 24 races per year as sole sponsor. Also Roush and Ganassi racing announced they will not be running Xfinity teams this year because of sponsor woes. Ganassi sponsor DC Solar had their head office raided by the FBI in November and are out of racing. No charges laid yet so who knows what they are into.

I heard that was a done deal pretty much. With Hendricks son and brother killed in that plane crash years ago on approach to Martinsville there is no succession plan if and when he dies. He has not been a very healthy man in his adult life so I think he wants to be ready if he passes for the teams to carry on.

Done deal today with Suarez going to the 41 car next year at Stewart Haas. No details yet on contract info.

JD Gibbs passed away last night as he finally succumbed to a neurological disease. He was 49. I really worry about the future of Nascar as Roush, Penske and Gibbs are not young men. Will these teams close down when the patriarch passes on? Hendrick who has long time health issues has tabbed Jeff Gordon to succeed him. What about the others?

T minus 1 day till racing fires up again. Daytona 500 practice, and the Clash practice start tomorrow with Daytona 500 qualifying Sunday and The Clash race after. Yee haw!

New rule in the Cup series that will rock you and long overdue. If the race winner fails post race tech he will be DQ'ed and the second place finisher will be the race winner. This is long overdue in Nascar's premier series. You are allowed I believe up to 2 loose lug nuts with 3 being a DQ in post race as well. Should make teams think hard on pushing the envelope.

1st practice for the Clash is over. Here is the fastest 5 from that run: 22-48-3-9-4. There was a 4 car wreck when Chase Elliott tried for to small a hole so Hamlin and Elliott will go to back up cars and Harvick and Newman can repair their cars it appears.
