So I hear so much gloom and doom about my sport Nascar, just did a little research on ratings on the Coke 600 and they were not good. It seems that a lot of major sports are tacking hits in their ratings but none worse than Nascar. The net effect of low ratings is what we are seeing related to the sponsorship issue, not many sponsors seem to want to fund a team for the whole year, many are backing out of the sport completely. Then there is Brian France who i have always had a dislike for, i have no good reasons for my dislike I just find him arrogant plus other negative personality traits and now he is going to sell Nascar - his Grandpa is probably rolling over in his grave.

So in my mind unless you engage the younger audience the sport will be increasingly marginalized but catering to a younger crowd is a tightrope walk as people like me who have been watching since the 70's (Bud Lindemann Wide World of Sports) can be put off as i really like tradition and don't like being spoken to like an idiot with explanations about basic concepts over and over again.

i don't know whats going to happen with Nascar but am curious to know what others are thinking on this matter

I think the France family selling will hurt the sport. I think some of the older base has left because of ticket prices and the changes in the sport. There is an older demographic that hates the Chase concept and think Nascar should go back to the old points system. Also Juniors poor competitiveness the past years and now with him out of the sport altogether has not helped either. The Earnhardt name was huge in Nascar over the years.

I think the France family selling Nascar would be the best thing for the spot. Its getting stale, bring in some new ideas, new promo's, access the younger audience which is going to be the key to its survival.

To much old school and one vision thinking.

monsters on the way out... lowes on the way out.... Hendricks sucking hind tit... stage wins.... bonus points.... flexible windows

I think its still better than the championship being decided with 2-3 races to go... makes Homestead interesting to see 2-3 eligible winners.

I don't think anyone can argue the Chase format in the playoffs is super exciting to watch. Like NoBrakes said 4 guys with a chance to win in a heads up shootout in Homestead is pretty cool in my opinion.

Race finally got going about 2:30 MST after 2 1/2 hr rain delay. Three Gibbs cars to the back after illegal front splitters before race today.
