He definately left early, about 5 ft early but it still doesn't make it right that the Nascar official told both Carl Edwards spotter Jason Hendelsy and Bob Jeffries who is Tony Stewarts spotter that Carl was the leader. This was confirmed by both drivers spotters to Bob Dilner after the race. Face it Nascar didn't help the issue and the proper way to deal with it would have been to restart the race again. Like Carl said if he would have known Tony was the leader he would have followed him to the start line and then raced him. End of story part 2. Lol.
The fact of the matter is NASCAR only speaks officially to the crew chief, then never speak to the spotters, any information a spotter may have gotten would have been from an individual. NASCAR issued a press release explaining how things are done, and the explicitly said the only official information as to the position of a car goes directly from a NASCAR official to the crew chief on a dedicated radio channel. Anything a spotter had for info was not official and a mistake on his part for relying on it.
