I actually agree with this statement. Given that an electric vehicle doesn't suit everyone's needs but neither does a 1 ton diesel. So many people make payments on vehicles that aren't used for the potential they were created for. How many diesel grocery getters are in your neighborhood?

Fact: the majority of people live, work and play within a 30km radius, thus the electric vehicle will out preform any combustion models.

Will the electric engine totally replace combustion? Obviously not, or at least anytime soon. There will always be the nay sayers but in all honesty the technology is growing so quickly and the numbers don't lie. Cost per mile vs hp ratings and maintenance alone are savings.

Even the top big rig guys have hybrid and full electric models now.

Anyone saying this isn't going to happen will be sitting here 5 years from now wondering what happened. Probably the same people that said the computer would never be popular

Electric is coming, but 50% in 5 years? Not happening. They are pretty much there with cars, but nothing else. I would be shocked if sales of electric cars alone was 50% in 5 years. There is no viable option yet for pickups or semis, unless everyone has been hiding them. I give it 10 years easy before there would be any electric option for me to replace anything I have now, maybe longer. Also not considering the changes needed for so many people to have decent charging available to them at home. And for people who live in an apartment, etc they have no good options unless big changes are made. Can you see anyone regularly going to charging stations and not having a way to charge at home? I don't.

A Honda 2000watt inverter would take about 60 hours to charge a 75kwh battery. 120volt times 12amps equals 1440watts. Charging efficiency at 88%.
1 gallon of gasoline contains 33kwh of energy.

What if you hooked up a 40 amp battery charger to the honda

most people don't have a gas station at home and get by somehow.. shouldn't need to charge at home either. charge up at the charger station just like you were filling up at a gas station.

that being said. there is no where to charge one in sylvan lake, or most the places I go. so until the infrastructure is in place I'll be driving iec vehicles...

I'm a journeyman electrician. Why don't you lecture me how electricity really works?
Hahahaha you have a 50% chance of getting your job right and most of the time you still get it wrong!! Just because you’re an electrician doesn’t mean sh!t about knowing about electric generation.

That will work when you can charge as fast as you can fill it with fuel. Even with a supercharger it is considerably longer, not a full charge, and you can’t always fast charge or you’ll kill the battery. I can see stores adding them so while you shop you can charge, but again it will take a long time and not an option for regular use.

Rivian is a start, ford and Toyota will have a full electric model in the next couple years. Many manufacturers are dropping models to go to a smaller lineup. Peterbilt already has a 2200hp fully electric truck, day cab much like a chip truck so not a heavy spec.

Although sylvan lake doesn't have any yet, red deer has 3.

Obviously these Ev's aren't yet made to replace a 1 ton diesel yet, but for the smaller compact commuter they are definitely taking over the market. People get so wrapped up in what we see locally we tend to think that's the way it is everywhere. The 1 ton diesel market is actually the smallest market of any manufacturers lineup. Mid sized and compact is the biggest, half ton trucks vastly out sell 1 tons.

This technology is coming faster then consumers can keep up. Just about everything that produces big hp numbers is already electric powered. Drilling rigs, trains, mining equipment etc.

Why are so many to say this isn't going to happen?

Ok, that makes it difficult.

Im not against E-vehicles at all. that rivian looks sweet, but where do you get one? There is 3 dodge dealers in Red Deer.
Gas station on every corner.

Right now they'd be a PITA for me. One day an E truck could make sense for me though.

Im in a Condo, Under ground parking, but no where to plug in.

Be that guy....Just plug in to your neighbor's house. lol. I had a loaner Chevy bolt to drive for a month back and forth to work. I was just using the power at work. I wanted to see if it would maintain itself without charging at home. It did no problem even on 110 volts. About 100 kms round trip. My manager was so pissed he shut the breakers off to the parking lot. lol

Ha ha, so what did you think of the Chevy bolt? If it’s anything like the volt I think I’d like it.
