Motocross bikes

Used to race a bit a LONG time ago. Last bike was a 2006 yz450. Thinking about getting another one this spring. Have they changed much? I guess what I’m asking is there a certain year and newer that a guy wants to stick to? Want to stay on a fairly tight budget but want something decent. Seen some 2015 yz450s for around the 4500 mark. Are many guys going back to the 250 two strokes?

I am still running the same rm250 I have been for years. I am also looking at a newer 450 with fuel injection. The Yammies went to FI in 2010. I would be looking 2010 or newer if I were you.

Looking at a 2010+ WR450 myself. Cops are starting to get pushy on having lights, and I'm getting two old for bs tickets. Will still keep the 250 for the track though.

Are there any brands to lean towards or stay away from? Suzukis still seem to be the cheapest. Is there a reason for that?

if you want a snowbike, think electric start and maybe lighting coil. yz450fx or uncorked wr450 maybe?

I'd tend to agree. There are alot of little things required to make a dirt bike work well as a snow bike. It would be a decent amount of work to do the conversion every season.

Do most of these bikes have some kind of hour meter on them? How many hours is getting up there?

I've had 3 rmz 450's wicked track bike, not the best for Bush riding. Depends on what type of riding you are going to do

I was told @ 50 hours check piston, 100 hours check the valve set. guys with 150 hours on 450s seem common

I would watch for a YZ250 2 stroke. Great bikes, parts are cheap and they work well on both the track and trails.

05 got aluminum frame 06 got better fork motor basically unchanged since 01 such a reliable engine other than that virtually no changes but a few small things.

I saw new zuke 450s at T&T going for about $6500 a little while back. $4k is still a decent deal. No issues with my old rm250. Suzuki has always been the "Lower end" bike.

Love my Yz 250 smoker. Lots of fun. It’s got a few things changed to make it a better woods bike vs stock. But I’m doing too many laps at the track. Mostly ride with buddies or my kids. Just The odd track day.

But I would want fuel injection and estart for a snow bike.

450’s are the worst for tight single track riding, too much low end torque

Little bit of everything.....forestry roads, single track, around the farm, and would definitely like to get back on the track again.

Looks like I made a deal on a 2015 yz450. Cant wait

I have a Husky 300, I would definitely recommend. One thing that makes the euro bikes nice to ride is the hydraulic clutch.

I see some of the Jap bikes are getting hydraulic clutches now, and e-start.
