Minimum job standard's,how low would you go?

I have to wonder what the plants excuse is? 30 to 40 employees you would think facilities would exist. How did they survive when it was hard to get workers? More to this story I would think.

with 30 employee's I'm also thinking there is more to the story! would it not have been better to ask when there, seems fishy to me!

Well, I have worked as a labour, while building a diamond mine up north. We packed a lunch in the morning. While working, there was no running water real handy so to say, unless you wanted to hike back to camp. We had porta pottys. A normal day was 13 hours from the time we left camp, till the time we got back. Construction phase was 18 months or there abouts. **Added edit- The construction phase had around 1800 people employed.**

I've worked service rigs, but you claim that doesn't count.

When I checked wells, none of the batterys I ran had running water, or porta potty's. When I was welding, we never had running water either, and honestly I'd rather **** outside then use some of those porta pottys.

Currently, I drive truck. Although it's very nice, my Pete doesn't have running water, or a flush toilet. No coffee pot either.

My advice is get a helmet kid, life can be rough. I appreciate your concern, but if that's really your biggest concern.... you might want to reconsider your career path.

So, I recently went for a job interview at a plant that has been running for many year's
and there is approx 30 people that work there full time.There is no running water (so,no
flushing toilet of course),coffee room/office is a 20-30 year old portable atco trailer with a
falling down ceiling and no flooring. (there is a porta potie on premisis though)
(The picture i'm painting here is if I had a dog,I wouldn't let him go in there to take a crap on the floor.)
So........... my question is,how many of you work or have worked in places like described above,and how desperate for work were you to work in such a place?
PS .This is a Big Company,not a mom and pop operation.

Snopro and absledder,I hear ya,I have spent many year's in a tractor in the field and
working on location's all day where you "live out of your lunchbox" and you do what you
have to behind the tires or in the bush. IMO that is to be expected, but this is not a temp.
job site or a tractor working in a field.
This is a "plant" owned and operated by a multi million dollar company. I kinda thought with
dozen's of full time worker's, a place to wash your hand's and do your "business" would kind
of be a no brainer.
Porta potties have their place,I'm not saying they don't.I just think that they only need to be used
at temp. job sites.

So who is this "multi million dollar company" that doesn't have running water?

I sure hope you took the job I was into one of the electrical wholesalers in Lloyd as that is where I live, he said one of the larger electrical contractor in town laid off guys last week and more to come this week. Yes it may not be ideal conditions but its work. Still trying to figure out who it is got a few ideas you going to give any hints who this company is? Good luck on your job search

Just an fyi.No, I'm not an entitled whinny kid. As I stated before I spent many year's on the farm
as I'm sure many of you did too (living out of a lunch box) after that I have spent many year's in the
patch(living out of a lunch box) working on location's all day. I was fully aware from one company to the
next when I applied for a job doing surface equipment install's ect. That I goda take what I need for supplies.
(water,TP,hand cleaner,paper towel's,ect) because once you leave town you are not coming back untill the job
is done.
I was just taken very off guard when I applied for a job at a plant and there was no water or toilet's.
( I don't really call a porta potie a toilet) Like piston said I would rather do what I had to do anywhere but in
a porta potie.
Did I ask questions during my interview concerning the water and bathroom situation? NO, why would I?
That is just going to make the interviewer move on to the next guy inline that much quicker. Am i wrong?
There was applicant's before me and after me, the way I look at it is I am there to answer question's not ask
them. If the job market was strong, then maybe I could ask whatever I had questions about, but as we all know
thing's are not looking great all over the place.

Is there more to the story - No.- I didn't make stuff up, I told it like I seen it.
Was I offered the job and I turned it down because of my "high standard's" NO,I was one of many lined up looking
for work.(and No,i'm not going to say who it was for or where it was) THAT WOULD BE A STUPID THING FOR ME TO DO.

In my mind, this isn't the third world where water and toilet's are expensive and
uncommon.
If this was a "mom and pop" 5 man company that was just starting out then I would
totally understand that you do what you goda do untill finances are inplace to make thing's
better.But that is not the situation.

1) are you currently working? If no the best piece of advise I can give you is, the moment you find a job start looking for a better one.
2) is the pay and benefits decent?
3) Remember things can never be so bad that it can't get worse.

To me it sounds like there is more to the story, but we are all "industrial prostitutes" it's up to you to decide what you are and are not willing to do for a paycheque.

Well I deal with LOTS of different water plants/distribution plants/bulk water stations/sewer stations and VERY few of these plants have bathrooms or even coffee rooms. In ALL of my plants/stations (easy 25+) only 2 have bathrooms and only 1 has a bathroom and coffee room.

Back in the day they weren't built for a crew of guys working 12 hrs a day, the regulations were different and only 1 or 2 guys checked on the plant a few times a day and that old school design just stuck. Not just your plant like that be lucky you have a out house if I have do my business while im on a run either im looking for a gas station or finding a bush.

I have to agree with dez, I've been in a heck of a lot of water/wastewater facilities all over Western Canada and maybe 1 in 100 have washroom facilities in them, even some of the newest biggest plants are missing them, just a fact of life in this industry

In a way a waste water plant the hole plant is a giant toilet.

The worst idea I had was bringing chili in my field lunch and no toilet paper. I had the old versatile in high range headed for the nearest grove of trees. Thank god for leaves lol

If you stop and think for a minute this will all make more sense. They are HIRING, everyone else is laying off employees. Sounds like a great place to work. They have the common sense to run a business and be expanding in a down economy.

I also think this is a great way to ensure they get real men working for them. Probably a strategic plan by the management!

Who would want to pay their employees to hide out in the washroom and beat off while watching porn on their smart phones?
