My buddy and I were talking about if in the event the battery on the Nytro was weak and it couldn't turn over the engine - how do you start it maunally. It appears that there is no recoil rope starter. Do you wrap a strap on the primary ?

Thanks ain advance:)

you dont!!! you would have to pull it over with another sled driving away from the unit to spin the clutch. lol

i have a set of homeade jumper cables in my sled. there is enought 4strokes on the hill now that you just flag someone over and ask them to give you a boost.

If you leave the truck and they are running (warm).......they pull start easier than a big twin. If cold that may be another story. But yes just wrap the primary and they fire right up.......found out after buddy tumbled his 50 times and lost the key:eek: I keep a spare with me

There is a kit out there that you hook to the light socket on a 2 smoke and boost from it. might be hard to find good luck:eek:

I also carry a battery pack in the truck if I ever need it.

Get a mini booster cable pack 10 gauge, works well. You can get from Canadian Tire or look on google. They come in a small fabric case. Also if I'm not riding with peeps that have a battery on there sled I carry a smaller light weight battery in my avi pack. I needed a boost once from sledslut and it works. Don't think you can pull start it.

Re: Manual start a Nytro... It can be done!

I was riding with a group of guys 2 years ago and one guy in the group had a T nytro. His starter quit working on the morning of the second day. There was nothing wrong with the battery. We pull started his nytro by hand and using a sled for 3 days. SnoBunje sells a tow rope called slicktape and its strong and thin enough to do it! One guy was really good at pull starting it but he had to pull it 3x as far as a 2 stroke. His arms were pointed away from the turbo nytro before it would fire. Using another sled is tricky too because it isn't how fast you pull away that counts but that you pull away at a constant speed after tensioning. We were ready to tape his kill switch so he couldn't shut it off out of habit after a good run!

What? We've done it. We didn't have booster cables.

I heard if the battery is too dead to start it, it's to dead for it to run.....overheard at Riverside one day when a guy asked the same question

Had the same thing happen last year to a buddy with a nytro, Its a good idea to teather your key to the sled.

well that statement is false, when ttpowersports was in blue all there four strokes had dead batterys when we went to unload them, and we had to boost them with the truck, let them idle for a bit and away we went once we got up into the alpine they were good to shut off

some ignition systems use battery voltage to charge the CDI ignition system so that it can be stepped up and then sent to the sparkplug. As long as the charging system is working properly and we keep the voltage above a specific amount. (usually close to 10volts) The sled will continue to run. This is why the boosting thing probably worked on these sleds.

BUT if we have a battery that has lost a cell due to a short in it we can have enough draw on the system that the unit willnot be able to spark.

not exactly sure how Yamaha snowmobiles are doing it but the above pertains to almost all newer streetbikes and also arctic cat 4 stroke snowmobiles example Z1

a good way to tell if the sled will run with out the battery is to pull the small wire off the solinod and then drain the battery down. Boost it and then take the boost off. if the battery is below 10volts at this point and you take the battery booster off and the engine dies you have a Battery CDI ignition system

hope this helps you4 stroke guys
