major oil spill into the red deer river

Best I can tell from comparing pic with google earth is that it was taken looking east about halfway to the dam.

This is the fear that drives a lot of us BC residents to say no to the Enbridge pipeline. The Harper government legislating timelines on public discussion for these type of major projects and then just recently major cuts to the Ministry of Environment further erode any confidence in the whole process. Anybody that believes these energy giants will self police if the goverment doesn't is a bloody fool.

Think of an incident like this where many,many people rely on a fishery to support or feed themselves and have done so for generations and that is what the coast of BC is.

Big oil companies are and always will be in it for the money. They also want to upgrade the trans mountain pipeline that goes to vancouver so that it can handle ALOT more oil. I'm not very enthusiastic about either ones myself, as this kinda thing like happened scares the crap out of me and i absolutely dont want that to be a possibility in my backyard.

Not saying anything like that. What I am saying is that the Harper government is all about big business at any expense. They want to shorten the time the public has to speak on these projects and weaken the Environmental protections we already have in place. It sure looks like they are trying to push Enbridge thru at any cost.

I know we need oil, but we also need to ensure that we leave a world where our kids and grandkids can get the food and water they will need to survive. This will not happen if we kill off the watersheds and oceans.

I think they should leave the maintenance up to the companies discretion. But if they have a spill, fine the living hell out of them, so they will never let it happen and it compensates people affected by it. And if they have to many problems, they go out of business.

the government is doing this already, but the problem is these companies will run and leave the problem behind. = you and i to fix.

Want to buy some cheap quads/sleds,i can`t get fuel for them anymore..........

I know on the news they said that the port of vancouver was making changes to where the oil companies that were shipping oil out of there had to have ALOT more insurance and such because of the fact the insurances they have would never cover the cost of a big spill there. As for leaving things up to the companies and IF they have a spill fine the crap out of them isnt a good idea. Because in some if not most area's if you have a spill i dont know if the eco-system there can ever be back to the same as it was before the spill and especially on the north coast of bc there are some very sensitive ecosystem's. On bc's coast is one of the largest remaining temoerate rainforests. that being said it is extremely sad to see things like spill's happen anywhere. They are saying that there traces of chemicals and such in the fish that are being caught in the gulf of mexico since the big bp oil spill, just for a nexample.
