February 8th 2016 ride !

Loaded for kows to catch a ride at hwy 22/53 area.

Linked up with long time friends Billy Binder Twine & Cactus Kelly. Ha Ha.

Been quading there for 20 plus years, and what a thrill to see many well kept up trails. Much different story when the ice is melted out of the deep ruts I would guess. Real easy getting around this time of year.

The big winds that went threw on Saturday brought down many trees that needed clearing, good thing Billy brought his power saw.

Wing ning, ning, ning, ning, stand back boys, dangerous tool in hand.

This was the main trapper cabin back in the day,

But a newer one went in back in the 80's.

We had time for the out-door bbq cook off.

Billy & Kelly tell stories about the old days. We all know what they say about them there days. "Boy were those old days." LOL.

We used the odd wide pipe-lines to link up with all the smaller cut-lines along the way, very lucky we found the ones that did not have too many downed trees from the wind storm.

Many of the tracks we put down a few weeks ago where barely drifted in.

Plus 8c today & 11c tomorrow. Sled season is rapping up soon in these parts.

Look like the guys that never made the cut for the show "Timber Kings" were trying there hand to make a out door camp spot, but I think that too many drinks went down as it never got finished. Too Funny look at this chit show !

Looks like they cut the main beams twice and they were still to short to work... Boy oh boy... Glad they didn't get a spot on TV as it would be painful watching them perform.

They could of hired me to draft up a plan, but my glasses are to dark to read blue prints.

At least they picked a spot that had running water along the North Saskatchewan River.

We lucked out by finding a long trail back to our units, but it won't work for very many when it thaws out as it will return to spring time gum-ball.

Wholly crap bat-man. Big old tree that defiantly needed removing.

Safety glasses, check. Kev-lar jacket, check. Harley Davidson beany, check. We let the well aged dude run the saw since we can always find a replacement ! Plus it really looks like their putting out when it gets stuck in the tree...

I know, we are not suppose to text and drive as well there is never any drinking allow, but I could not help my self to take a moving photo of Billy Binder Twine passing me at 36 kpr with lose tire chains... Sounded like a rail road car with a wheel that jumped the tracks... Ha...

That raps up the day of the "Tree Amigos" that spent most of our day lost finding everything new that was not expected at every wright/ wrong turn.
Best days spent with sharing a passion of light/ like minded folks with common goals at out-door activities that involve clearing trails, picking up lost beer cans that fall out of the sky, and pretending we are moose looking for a mate. Ha Ha.

All good with pals from Red Deer and area on another awesome day. Pal Lem.

Looks like you had a good day.
Seen you loading up as I drove by on my way home.

Thanks for the reply Rbruk as we had a awesome day in the block. The 2 of us had tire chains and 1 with out, so we could of taken them off as its easy getting around out there less a few spots where the snow is wind blown. Glad you like the thread as it will be our main area for crazy antics that us middle age 4 wheeler enjoy doing. Young, old, half crazy works for us since we fit in any where/ every where with all that enjoy the slow pace of travel with bone fire bbq's and after-noon naps or coffee stops in big clearings.

Your sure welcome all, I like taking photos and coming up with crazy ramblings since we can use some humor through the day.

Its nice when we find folks that like to share simple talk about things other then politics, religion, and work as it consumes to much of what we want to avoid in the "Our Time for Me/ Us".

There is nothing wrong with the above if folks like to go down this path, but it helps at times to chat & plan on the things that really.

Most of the conversations is traveling trips that each of us do, different ways to do these trips, what will benefit us at home with family & friends in this planning.
We find time too share on the hunting, fishing stuff, and areas that work in this activity in-case we decide to up the game plan of future outings.
The others and I have been luck to travel much of Western Canada, so sharing on landing pads, areas to check-out, and all the needs for those rides we share when the time comes.

There's no rocket science of how things play out, most out-door groups that ride find what works for them, and we look for other folks to join in that like easy going speeds at 4 to 12 kph/ 1st & 2nd gear much of the time,,, but there are the spots that are drab that we zip-zap past at higher speeds to embark on the next leg of WOW.
It is sure nice to rap up the day with out being worn down from bouncing around like a rag doll that takes the fun out of the drive home.

Sure nice to have that grin from ear to ear when we get home knowing that we did our best to bug the heck out of our pals all day long. Ha Ha.

Game for what I can take in at all 4 corners of a round planet.

February 13. 2016 Medicine Lk West

Got a chance to return to my very first riding area ever 40 + years ago, many changes in cut-lines and clearings in the Medicine Lk area.

By 11 pm the temp were in the +7c range and climbing, so no need to wear warm jacket that ended up in the pack box.

Very easy going on the medium to big right-aways.

The odd cut-line had trapper sled tracks on them, but this whit stuff won't last for long since many of the small creeks were starting to flow.

Some areas are easy to forego since they are normally high dry ground, and it was a super dry summer and fall for 2015.

Lots of slash-lines too.

I've always run small quads with stock tires, so I stay out of spots like this all the time. Little 350's and 400's don't do well back here is the spring time or when it is raining un-less a person doesn't mind getting pitched around, or spending time winching. Best time to see the area is frozen fall or later time winter like today. Easy when the holes are full of ice. Big units have very little trouble zipping past these spots.

No little 420 in this dug-out ! Ha...

Found this hwy North of the Med Lk Rd, and many pipe-lines, with the odd small frozen creek crossing. Not spring riding here for me or the group.

I don't know what did this trench, but I bet I'd my 24" tires won't work in it.

I still found lots of other areas to ride, and well worth checking it out, hope to see more of it in the fall when the ground tacks-up in colder weather. The area would not be much fun for younger folks if one wants to cover different areas since there are many other places too ride that are more compatible.

7 hours, 75 km day, well worth the sight see of awesome.

Totally agree on that arff, the picture that had my 2 fingers were pointing out SxS tracks where it was struggling to climb the frozen creek bank. Looks like they had to put the hammer down to get the unit out as there were a few tracks on both sides of getting out of there. Little Honda did ok with rear chains idling threw it, but it would be a different story when the ice is gone.

I did come across many challenging areas that are not "2 wheel drive/ young person friendly," or small stock tire units like mine that just don't fit in around the nasty's. Ha...

If one wants to see the big "roosting," best to show up here on May 24th Long when all the monsters show up. Sustainable Resources have been bring out 2 large roll off dump cans to collect garbage that weekend, and more RV's, Toy Haulers, Fifth Wheels that fill every opening and cut-line around Med Lk. 1000 plus units the 1 year, but a normal year is closer to 3 or 400. "Un-official count since there are to many to count."

We were able at one time to drive back and forth on the large North/ South pipe line with out any issues that is on the North side of the Med Lk road, not any more as the wood-cord-a-door layed down is now up-rooted out, 3 or 5 spots of are now impassible to all as it has returned to quagmire, easy too do when frozen.

Glad to see the area when easy to get around, today we ride a more friendly area less to challenging spots.

It's a good spring ride when still frozen a bit. Mid summer can get nasty.

I'll be grouping Sunday's and Monday's ride into one since I'm over nighting out West in my Pick-Up-Truck set-up.

The unit's back seat was turned into a full live-in kitchen, living-room, sleeping quarters when I bought the truck in 2005. Its been home sweet home on many outtings across all of Canada and US of A, spent much of that time living in the mountains of BC sledding. 1000 watt power plant for lap-top movies, world wide web, and oil-heater to melt the snow off the windows.

I would guess I've logged in just under 2000 outtings over 10 years.

The old dude told me that all a man needs is a real good pick-up and sleeping bag, so this has become a way of living foot loose and fancy to see many places from Alaska to Southern Mexico and Coast to Coast here in North America.

I might change my worldly ways when I turn 90. Ha... "Not".

I, among others I'm sure, would love to see some pics of your rig!!

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 using Tapatalk.

I will post some pictures of how I rigged the 4 door Dodge up for living in stagging areas.
The reason I pack lite is to save on fuel, easy to go down many roads "with no trailer", use unit as a support tool truck for most repairs, emergancy call center, billy-goat packer to haul quads, bikes, sleds, and grizzly bear protection so I don't have to sleep on the ground.

Very comfortable at +42c Tuson Arizona hot to -44c North/ East of Fort Mac. I pack the Honda 2000 watt for up there so truck block and cab heaters run at same time. Both gens came in at $2000 new 8 years ago.

They have many hours on them with oil changes only, ECU works good at saving fuel.
1000 Watt runs for 7 to 9 hours on 1.7 liters
2000 watt runs about that same on 2.8 lites.

Truck cab is toasty warm all night, good to keep cloths dry for the next day. I was going to do a Wabasco heater unit, but $4200 that give me no power to run the truck cab office dose not work for me. Ha. Humans need electrical power which make life simple.

I'll post pictures on Monday night so all can see the Jeathrow Bowdean clown show of living the wilds

Feb 14. 2016 Hunitng Camp Area

Cactus Kelly and I did a tour of our hunting area to make sure the trails are up to par.

Looked like one of the bigger units made back here with no tire chains as it did not fair to well in the deep stuff.

I took Kelly up to the old tree stand area so he could get his game plan going in this block.

The temps were good, and easy to get around with out any problems as the snow is pretty much crunched for this season.

And time for our favorite part of the day. Time to melt a Honda. Ha.

Look Kelly, a 1 horn 5 point White-Tail Deer.

We always have to check in with our loved ones to let them know we still think about them when we are lost in the trees.

Yum Yum, or Yo Yo depending what side of the world your from.

After a awesome lunch I thought it was only fitting if one of us got stuck to help wake us up since we missed out on the after-noon nap time. LOL.

We checked out the big pipe-line to see where may of the crossing area if we do the tree stand thing.

We check out a few other areas out here, and the temps were good, +6c for 6 hours covering 65 kms of 1st gear riding.

Kelly booked it home, and I did the over night truck camp out. 1000 watt geny to dry gear and toosty warm any where I park

Its a tight fit when I was 5'11", but now that I aged to 5'9" I seem to fit well in the 10 year back seat bed I made in the unit.

Very hush hush unit as you can't hear it threw the night, and the dam thing runs 7 to 9 hours on 1.7 L of gas.

I always keep it in my back seat area when not in use. and it gets pad-locked to one of the pilled to prevent theft if broken into, plus it won't float around if the truck tips over. Have to think safety at all times.

Sure would be nice if Alberta had painted lines on our hwys for early morning outings.

Awesome sun rise as I eat breakfast for the day ahead. I moved further West to check out the snow pack.

Spent many a years traveling this big pipeline looking for Elk.

I know the area well, but I use the mountains as land marks on clear days, spent some years touring along the edges of them hunting Mountain Sheep.

Shes going to be one nice day.

If anyone lost the kitchen utensils, let me know as I hate to she folks go with out. Looks like they are burnt on the ends as they must of been BBQ-ing with them !

Plan is to ride as far West as I can to see if the river will is still frozen.

I tried count-less time to do this pipe-line on my 400 cc dual sport bike with no luck, but the new quad makes it way too easy. Glad too be back on 4 wheels for this stuff.

5 years later I finally did it too find out the lop around road was connected too it. Too Funny.

At least I know where it goes now.

Whisper river is frozen, awesome.

Trapper crossed it a few time this winter.

And he marked it down stream where he crossed

Real thick along the under water rock wall.
