Lem Lamb is not MIA, Ha.

Been busy helping buddy get ready for 2016/17 beaver trap line work.

Lots of prep when weather is warm as our fingers freeze up in cold weather.

Looks like your folk are putting on the miles as I'll get back too the grove soon.

It's been a good summer, and a long time since I've been back to our "Lost in the West" thread.

Cold weather is soon to roll in as I move back to the cab of my cabin with wheels, "Rigged up truck cab with quad in box" to live in back woods.

I see on the snowmobile threads that hotel prices are on the rise, this didn't matter to me when sledding BC back then as rooms cost to much back then.

Being cheap / Whoops I mean frugal,,, I started traveling all of BC with pick-up truck, sled and sleeping bag only, it was like ruffing it at first.

2 of the best things too make this living in a truck more comfortable was a truck with 4 doors as the back seat became a full time bed "as seen in pictures above",,, and a 1000 Wat gen-set that runs for 7 too 9 hours on 1.7 L of gas to power up heater in cab that kept the frost off my pumpkin at night, Ha.

Those 2 add on's improved the quality of staying out doors much more enjoyable.

It allowed me to extend my 3 and 4 day trips to 7 and 10 dayers, as the cabin with wheels got rigged up better it soon became the home away from home as the month outting turned into 50 and 60 dayers threw out BC.

This living frugal and traveling frugal goes hand in hand as I hit it local this year with quad and tracks for all season riding.

Hotels have been on my X list since 1997/98 as a place to sleep is all I need, rec centers are in every town to clean up in, and some bulk gas stations have showers too.

Grocery stores fill my Kooler and propane stove for making 1000's of cups of coffee per week, LOL.

Pulling a trailer won't work for me as I hop from area too area, and getting the small truck off the beaten path is a must since its so peaceful away from the grid.

My 1 year trip across the Americas showed me that I'm not the only person living in their vehicle as thousands nightly pull into Wal-Marts and casinos too set up camp.

Colorado USA is the capital of folks living in cars, trucks, and vans.

Living on the road in the cab of a truck is not for everyone, but for those of us that like to put on the miles, this is the best bang for the buck I can think of.

Truck, toy, tools of one's life with them at all times ready to take on the America's.

Saved hotel funds go too gas, and the miles of distance soon add up.

Glad to share as year 20 of traveling cabin gets underway.

Wasn't sure if I should post photo of 2 brama bulls in the Ford F -150 going to market, Ha.

5000 lb air bags were definitely maxed out on that run.

That's a lot of bull.

They on the sled deck?

Ha, it was the only BS story I could think of fast between oil patch loads.

No room for Brama bulls in my Ford unless they are in the cab with me. Ha.

Truck cab camping at its best !!!

Parked cabin with wheels on top of a mountain too watch a awesome sun rise,,, hot coffee in hand too.

I'm going to class this as life lived full 100 moment,,, actuality its probably the 1 million of the kick at the can.

Hats off too my long time pals Swany River & Windy Bones for telling me too not own 1 home or cabin as it restricts the Americas.

The cabin on wheels allows adventure to where they go.
A truck and good sleeping bag started it off,,, Ha now I can say the a full time bed in the back seat, good gas consumption gen-set, kooler of food, lots of coffee, quad, all worldly possessions needed for camping/ "living as I call it", and ones passion to go for it.

As mentioned, not all humans can do the truck thing, and rightfully so as each of our needs are different, some folk enjoy having lots that add comforts to life, as others like my self get by with just enough.

The day will come when the Honda farm quad is replaced by the lawn chair, purhaps a topper or camper will be the next plan.

As for now the rig is working good as it allows distance to the wild lands in many directions.

Today I explore a area I've not been to in 10 years, then the cabin on wheels returns to work force till it ventures again.

So glad the TV days are done, and next to nill for human contact by smart phones is now a reality.

Kind of strange sitting on top of this mountain in clear skies above as the valley of life bellow is hidden in valleys of mist.

I know you humans are down there, at least I hear small amounts of traffic moving in the distance.

This is what I liked most when snowmobiling much of BC as I go off grid hidden in the mountains away from man kind,,, so quiet and peaceful snowmobiling, snow shoing, and just hanging out at a large winter time bon-fire.

Scouting out creeks and flowing rivers with banks of snow, the aroma of cedar trees and moose munching on willow bushes.

Life is grand, and Grander when we make our own foot prints on the lands.

Glad to share in ideas for all that live the spark of out doors, its been a long long road getting comfortable in the back woods, but now I can truly say that this quest to do it is a passion like no other.

Swany River and Windy Bones were right. We are who we are when we allow life too be lived full bore as much as we can.

Reporting form paradise where it can be found.

Thanks 52, always glad to share on ideas for those that "might" consider options of "frugal" adventure.

Foot loose and fancy with cabin on wheels as I hopped from play ground to work, if things go south at work I head too the hills.

At times I kinda miss the bumper pull trailer, leaving it out west made me nervous, today's day in age is hard to figure out, so my other option was to pack it around all the time,,, this of course added to the fuel bill.

Next idea was a topper and pack quad on small trailer, but that too seemed to have draw backs since I spend many hours driving around in reverse, Ha. "keeps the kms low on my truck".

So foot loose and fancy along with less is more fits the Grove I'm in, just enough tools, gear, supplies, hobbies and good times that all fit into 1 truck.

Going to 2 wdr truck with tire chains limits many places where I go, this forces me to use the quad even though I want to hang out in the truck,,, but like my pal mentioned,,, It is warm in the trees, and speed is not a factor when sight seeing by OHV.

Thumb warmer and wind screen very soon, I always pack the Baffin Island Artic suit, so staying warm is happening.

I'm changing this and that around too keep things simple, "everything" needs adjusting as it has too be easy to get to and make cabin on wheels fun and enjoyable on every outting.

Don't kid ones self as I struggled at first, and made many wrong moves in many directions of change, what I thought wasn't working was, and what was wasn't,,, Ha.

None of know this unless we accept change, and we only know what works for us,,, so long as it fits our needs is the plan I run with.

Less is more since its tuff to be a horder of junk. There are 3 things that sit on my dash, "Kow, Donkey, and GPS when I close in on jungles that most folks call Cities".
I'm not wise to them as they force me too the wilds.

So everything needs its place, and this helps in these outings. Wet gear gets front seats or under hood to dry, food idea changes from canned goods spring to fall to package dry goods in winter,,, there are some exceptions to this,,, grocery store stops more often for free fruits and vegetables, then back to the pack lunches.

Water is a most, and we only know this when we need it right now, Ha. Pretty hard too have a glass of it when it's -40c as its like a frozen block of ice,,, better off melting snow in the pot then turning frozen into Mr drinkable.

I don't believe in "hard-ships" as they are being wize ahead of game plan,,, one is on guard at all times with back up plans in the bush. The 2 small tool boxes are in place, same as small supplies "when" needed.

One can not cover all the bases, but we can think ahead of options, 2 or 7 if not more. Game plan is a constant this is how bush folks live,,, I don't even class my self as a bush person as that's a different category all on its own.

More on this later as I'm off to the grind, my days ahead are planning for yet another wizer, better, and more thought out time out doors.

Pal Lem with what life is thrown at it.

PS: lap top is soon to get fixed for picturer time.
Story is kinda bland with out photos, Ha.

Sounds like you have a system that works for you. For those trips off into the wilderness and leaving your truck way behind, did you ever look a hot tent?

I am envious as I completely lack your willpower to rough it for a night or two never mind an extended period of time.

Ha, never too extended 52 as I need to see street lamps in the city's too remind me too return too the hills. LOL

Yes, I thought about the tent, but the Pine Martin's would have a hay-day digging threw my gear. "did I mention I fear 9" Pine Martin's."

So 3 days, 2 dudes, 2 quads, 2 Grizzlies weekend of the rivers.

Pal and I headed for the hills in search of furry critters, Elk that is. We had limited luck of finding in the hills, so pal mentioned that rivers hold the keys to success, wow was he correct.

Tracks in every directions of all kinds, but we never seen fur standing in them, Ha. Just part of living the dream.

Be dammed if we didn't come across 2 sets of Grizzly Bear prints, a moma and cub on the go,,, then 7 miles as a crow flys we ran into them once again. "only a guess since we didn't chat with them. Ha

Cut lines just east of the foot hills are tacking up nice as we travelled many miles of un used ones in many directions,,, some how ever were not frozen at the black hole sections..." Turn around time" as mud and winching is not our thing when sight seeing is much more fun.

Pal is Harvesting in a way, but not really as its way down the list of things to do, bon-fire by the river, lawn chairs, coffee and Smokey dogs with all the fixings.

Found a nice rise to set-up on too take in most of the days of relax and burn log jams that allows the rivers too flow free in the spring to come, LOL.

We are thinking about getting a government grant for this, so if anyone knows who we can talk to, please chime in. Ha...

Any-who, we watched ever night for the big moon and howeled at the Wolves into the wee hours of the night, then bunkered down for the nights.

Buddy had his get away toy box as I had my cabin on wheels, both units warm and cozy, kinda like the toy box on cold mornings, but extra time and gas if Island hopping as I recall,,, nothing wrong with that idea if the box stays put as the truck wheels get us around in the first part of the days. Afternoon for quads as allowed by Harvesting regulations.

Seen a few other cabins on wheels as well. One young fellow we came across was winter camping in the bush as his cabin awaited his return. We spotted his back up unit off one of the cut lines.

No snow on any of the cut lines, but puddles and small small trickles are in ice mode.

Glad to share with all as kool winds soon roll in over the next few weeks, planning is on going for more rides ahead.

Pal Lem reporting from dark corner of work yard as the power systems soon fill the day with energy us humans need to live quality of life we need.

Will do Imdoo'n, I'm thinking Bears don't like us Ford F-150 dudes since they fear we might try to fit a bunch of them into a short box too see if legal too drive to BC, HA.

Any-who, skid plate is frugal price so replacement is the plan.
Windshield and dumb warmers too, big truck box along with tid-bits.
Nothing like building up the ride now that "Winntummer" is soon apon us.

I can see that the TV days are coming to a end since I have the Mud & Frozen Mud sight too visit, and the general day old free news paper too read,,, there ainpack't no way I'm going to pay hard earn cash too watch nothing on TV.

Web forums consume my time now along with sitting on top of mountains drinking coffee watching the sun come up and the moon going down.

Dress warm, pack extra dry gear, and sleep often in the cabin on wheels, LOL. Finding or dream is what its all about. I see a few trips to BC with quad tracks that can explore the trap-line trails my pals have out there.

Sure fun keeping in touch with the bush dudes that enjoy the chat of good times.

Reporting from a road un-jnown at work as I have all day for other co-workers too practic their skills at find me if you can. Ha... Lucky we get payed too play this game.

Thx all as trying different things to add to all season riding has been a quest for not only me,,, but others as well !!!

A UTV/ATV with tracks is nothing like a snowmobile that is ment too rock the winter time blues, but where track on All Terrain tracks shine is in areas where snow-cover is limited,,, Ha. Some areas in Alberta lets say.

This weekend took me too areas that had too much snow for tires and tires with chains,,, further down the trail one could of drove a Gold-Wing motorcycle with street tires...

Some sections going up the mountains were jagged sheep head stones that would of wrecked a sled in the first 1 to 2 kms as there was no snow cover any-where,,, this my friends is where ATV tracks shine.

One can adjust their speeds according too conditions on a in-going base,,, areas that are not favourable require a light touch, other spots that are flat/ smooth/ clear of hazards allow for throttle.

"Normally these UTV/ATV track systems are built for sight seeing adventures as well as the work place,,, those that require fast some of the time, or" all the time," then this is not what one is looking for.

I would allow others too drive my unit with tracks, but they will have to spend some time chatting about how they work, then some field time with the 2 of us too share on the workings. "Someone not knowing the inns & outs can destroy a unit in seconds."

Adults and youngers can doo fine with tracked up units, tapping it kool and learning where and where-not too go, watching for binding points, downed trees & rocks, frozen creek bank drops and rises, hills up & down along with side-hilling and icy sections un-seen hidden by snow cover.

Operators and learners can and should share in this info since it can save on funds in the long haul.

As Imdoo'n mentioned,,, "All Terrain tracks are a different beast, and a operator is wize to know this and expect the un-kownens along the way."

Learning curve from push-cats, track-hoes, husky 8's that are industrial grade are forgiving, not so much for the light recreation track systems for our power sport units,,, in a way that is.

Sharing in the IMO only as the adventure is a continues learning thing

ha sounds like a good weekend adventure was had! tracks have a steep learning curve, not likely enjoyed by the turbo go fast crowd. what goes down has to find it's way back up somehow! lol. J-M-O, they do allow operation in deep snow that will stop rubber tired machines, just have to gain the experience on using them.
