left hand throttle

so i'm new to this stuff, i hear everyone talking about a left hand throttle, just wonder what the benefit of it is?

I bought one for last year because of the hype of them and wasted $80. It was pointless, well for me at least. And the mount wore through the thumb of 2 left gloves.

As someone who is also new at this, I like the lefty, as I progress in ability I may remove it. The group I ride with don't use them any more, but found it useful when learning to boondock and side hill....just my .02:d

i've heard people with shorter arms like them for sidehilling, theres one on the sled i just bought and i doubt i'll use it.

I put one on my old ladies sled to help her side hill. But took it off after 2 rides it made the throttle stick, not ride open but just like it was on high idle all the time. Waste of time and money

haha..they are dangerous too...learn to use the throttle where it is..

Well here's a different perspective. I have one and wouidn't be without it. I don't use it a lot, but when I do it's because I really need it to get myself out of something I probably shouldn't have gotten myself in to in the first place. Maybe if I was taller or had longer arms I wouldn't need it. My son is 6' 4" and can't be bothered with one. Maybe if I didn't get into predicaments like that I wouldn't need it but hey, what can I say. I'm an explorer!

Having said all that I wouldn't recomend anyone use one without a tether cord.....one that's actually attached to them! :d

Had one on the old RX1 when i bought it it. Left in on, when i bought the summit I've learned to ride better without one. Won't say that I could never use one but after replacing the rear snowflap on one of my riding partners brand new M8 after grabbing a handfull of trottle instead of the brake,i won't have another. 'Nuff said.

Another perspective -
I'm a leftie and have found it to be very helpful whether boondocking or just trail riding. One does have to be aware of the dangers as well - had a buddy put his sled through the back window of his suburban while loading - so beware!

So a different voice here....... I have a Lefty and use it "sometimes" as a chick sledder that's 5'2" and weigh 130 lbs my arms are quite short and I dont' have the weight to throw my Dragon around like most of you men. I mainly use it for sidehilling, I can't tell you how many times it has saved the men I am riding with from having to pull me out of the ditch or help me get unstuck....really now...... I need my guy's to have more fun than that... ......Just sayin...

That's a good reply, I also have a goldfinger and though I do not use it very often, it can be very useful when trying to get out of a tight spot. They are a tool like anything else and if you have one, you need to train yourself how to properly use it so there are no accidents.

Also agree 100% with using a tether cord, the best real-time insurance policy you can have IMO

only thing mine ever did was create a huge whoops... aww chit...
and a damm near wrote off xp.... i took it off the next day.
handful of brake turned into a handful of gold... not good.
