And that is why it is soooooo much money
Some of the lab cost for samples are $1400 per sample and we have typically 150 of those per site. We need to mark stuff up as well, I’m not in the business of moving money We also have days of labour for certified technicians and geologists on sites. The costs are astronomical.

Only the government could spend $400000 testing a building for contamination that will go to the same landfill regardless.
Here’s how that works. Friend owned an old oil field facility in our town. He had to get soil samples for the sale of property. They found contamination. He thought they would be hauling the contaminated dirt to Swan Hills so he asked if he could rent a trailer and pull it with his truck to save some money. They agreed. Guess where the contaminated dirt went? Lethbridge. Dumped over the banks of the river. Can you believe that? Buddy was shocked but trucking costs were less than Swan Hills.

What a joke, Jasper is toast, people won’t be be able to afford to rebuild or even live there unless they are piled 10 on top of one another in one bedroom $hitholes like dirty immigrants do. Yayyyy we can soon live like trash in a 3rd world with a view of some ho hum run of the mill mountains…….Absolutely absurd what’s going

Astronomical and 100% unnecessary. When people run out of insurance money and don’t have enough to rebuild their home once this over the top testing crap is over, they will either have to get more loans from the banks to top up there payout so they can continue to live in Jasper or just sell there worthless stake and move somewhere else….. very sad. Most people there don’t have high paying jobs, most houses in Jasper are railway built homes and definitely aren’t gonna get enough insurance money to rebuild a home in these overly inflated times. Especially cause the federal govt will only approve the builders they want and can make more money off the top as well. Welcome to Alberta new whistler. Only the rich will be able to live there

Tell us how you really feel tmo!

Not that it puts me out, Jasper is way overrated, lived within 2 hours of it my whole life. Best thing is the ski hill and it’s only number 3 in the province. I know a couple guys, family friends that have lived there for a long time, I golf with them from time to time if I ever make my way to Jasper for a round and both of them lost their homes and will not be able to afford to rebuild and live there anymore, such a shame. They are not happy, both are retired and are gonna now be forced to relocate somewhere.

Sounds like inflated costs to take advantage of the situation. It costs around $1k in the city to get a report and testing done on a typical house, and that's around 10 samples. Granted the houses in Jasper will be a lot higher, those sampling costs i'd bet are at least 80% just lining people pockets, or more candidly put, stealing.

The government is involved. Of course there's gonna be theft.
