I spoke with someone up there in ranks at the fire department and there’s alot of things that were against them. Fire fighters and equipment was stopped at the pak gate. They ran out of oxygen tanks and had to resort to N95’s that was it. No taking water from the river it had to all come from pyramid lake. Many more. I’m sure heads will roll but it will be skape goats only. lol

Its been tough here seeing the devastation of the town and forests here. This has really been my home since Aug 8 and we have at least another year to complete all of the smaller stuff. We basically have completed most of the hotels, restaurants, grocery stores now. Have demo's or cleanups of apartments and houses to work on now. Winter is here now as well.

Interesting fact that Jasper has different fire hydrants than anywhere else and there is only 7 adapters available at the time.
The BS comments on Jasper parks FB page is making them out to be heros. Lol

Parks Canada has not been friendly to residents or commercial operators with the crazy sampling procedures after the buildings / debris are removed. Sampling on a 12000 sf building is over 250k with what they are asking for. I feel for someone that has 400k coverage and we eat up 350 already.

$250k to sample a building of that size? It would be cheaper to treat all debris as asbestos and demo that way. That’s absolutely insane. I still don’t see how sampling costs could get that high, someone is lining their pockets like crazy.

This is what parks Canada wants after demolition and cleanup. They own the land and are making sure all leased land has absolutely no contaminates.

Also all buildings so far have asbestos remaining and several other contaminates present. The sites are specifically cleaned up then there is a phaze required for testing for many contaminants. This is the same thing that is completed for truck rollovers. It’s more than nuts to request this however the insurers have no choice.

When the government gets involved, the new price is just stupid. These homes should easily be demolished for less than 10k. Instead they treat it like the trans mountain pipeline. Started at 5 billion- stupid excuses make it a 35 billion job. Wet down the asbestos and move it to a dump. Not that complicated, until these new stupid rules.Asbestos is nowhere near as dangerous to work with as they feel, just keep the dust down .

This is not about asbestos that’s the simple part to clean up it is a regulated substance nation wide. This is after the cleanup. See below:

Post Demolition
48. Prior to backfilling a site that was burnt, or where waste characterization
indicates contaminants of concern, confirmatory post demolition soil sampling
and testing must be completed on all four walls and the floor of the excavation to
confirm contaminants of concern are not present in levels that exceed the
Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Residential/Parkland
soil quality Guidelines for the protection of human health. (Agricultural/wildland
guidelines may be applied to specific contaminant levels at the discretion of Parks Canada where
site specific considerations, receptors, and exposure pathways may indicate this consideration is
needed to ensure the site is fit for the intended land use). The contaminants of concern
are, unless otherwise identified during waste characterization or during
demolition, are as follows:
a. Asbestos;
b. Metals (e.g., arsenic, lead, mercury, zinc, copper, antimony);
c. Silica;
d. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs),
Petroleum Hydrocarbons (PHCs), Dioxins and Furans; and
e. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other Flame Retardants.
49. In general, unless otherwise proposed by a qualified professional and approved
by Parks Canada, one discrete grid sample per 5-metre increment on each wall
and floor is required; samples should be collected from within 0.2 metre
perpendicular distance from excavation surface.
50. A preliminary results report on the soil characterization results must be prepared
backfilling or rebuild on a site to confirm site is suitable for the intended use.
51. If the soil sampling results show residual contaminants on site exceed generic
Residential/Parkland CCME guidelines, additional sampling, delineation and
remediation may be required in the form of a Phase Il Environmental Site
Assessment (ESA) conducted in accordance with the CCME Guidance Manual
for Environmental Site Characterization in Support of Environmental and Human
Health Risk Assessment, Volume 1 Guidance Manual, or the Canadian Standards
Association 2769 2000 (R2023) Phase Il Environmental Site Assessment
standard and signed by a Qualified Person.
52. If the Phase I| ESA indicates the presence of residual contaminants, a Remedial
Action Plan may be required, to be reviewed and authorized by Parks Canada,
then implemented on the property.
53. Proof of disposal location of all hazardous and non-hazardous materials must be
provided to Parks Canada within one week of material removal.
54. Backfilling must be with material from a verifiable source from a native quarry
site, approved by Parks Canada.
55. Site finish shall ensure no erosion off site by water or air can occur.
