Jackson Hole Hill Climb

Chain brakes are great for new riders coming down big long glacier rollers
makes for safer rides home at the end of the day,

on another note..... I don’t get this Jackson hole crap, who the hell likes spinning out on ice and dirt all day with a sled?
And at a stupid SKI hill none the less, a sled is not fun or rippin at this race, why don’t they do it on a real sled mountain with deep snow and no dirt?
no plankers watching from chair lifts
no spotters cuz the snow is deep and who cares where sled goes when they eat shxt
no stupid shxt spring snow pack,after the plankers are done with it all year
no single track,two at once or new hill run every day
no dumb ski hill confinement
idk...I could name a hundred more but each to there own I guess, it’s just not a deep pow crazy long race it could be.
just a race on shxt spring hard pack snow with dirt, lol I think deep powder and sleds are a better combination and I couldn’t care who’s brand of sled made it up a icy dirt run

Why at JH?
Draws the best crowds easier, wild looking rides to the uneducated, parts flying destructive fails fun to watch.

Back in the day we used to carry small loops of chain to throw over our skis to slow us going down steep inclines that had morphed into toboggan runs.

I know a place................a buddy made up some chain loops and placed then on a tree at the top of water fall for just that purpose. We could usually get into Zipper Mouth Creek with a little shovelling and some pulling to get up the water fall. On the way out, it was normally iced up real bad and the chains were a God send. Put them on, go down the ice, and walk them back for the next guys. Big rocks and big trees were just waiting for a mistake. We would leave them at the bottom for the next trip in.

Sounds like Poo must be cleaning up.....again.

Why does Polaris win every year? Better riders or better sleds? Maybe BRP will have a chance next year with the Lynx?

Even the Golden boy Keith Curtis had trouble today... the hill looks especially nasty this year, mostly ice, lots of frozen rocks.

Not sure I totally agree with you. Even the best riders will notice 50 lbs. difference.

Kudo's to Polaris. They have a great stable of riders. Justin Thomas is as good a golfer as he is a hill climber. Lol. Polaris puts a lot of effort into this event its easy to see. Keith Curtis is the undisputed champ who can dial up even more speed and finesse whenever he needs it it seems. Going to be a lot more King of Kings for him until he retires.

Just a side note because I have never been there but I'm surprised how they set up the course so that you come in balls to the wall to make the last gate then have like 20ft to come to a stop on a 6ft ledge backed by snow fence after your run. Few guys almost wiped out after their run. Lol

He did pretty good as well this weekend as I saw him go over the top 3 times I believe. Carl was over a couple times and Colton was over once as well.

Lynx, nope not a chance. But I wonder how that suspension would work in those conditions.

I'm just thinking the T-Motion might not be helping in these conditions and the Lynx is supposed to be for big bumps so maybe it will help.

I’d imagine the Lynx skid being totally uncoupled would make it a nightmare climbing that hill. Guys are running ez-ride skids to keep the skis down.

I don't follow the lives of all these riders obviously but I'm pretty sure Curtis doesn't have a job. He says he races and rides sleds in the winter and motocross bikes in the summer, trains hours in the gym every day and eats healthy. The guy is 100% training year round for this event he says. He said he spent days dialing in the suspension on hills with Carls Cycle just for this event. His hard work and time invested in this event obviously shows. Blaine Mathews is a rodeo guy and Mentaberry is pretty busy with Doo in the winter. If these guys are the best Doo has they will never stack up to Cutis's commitment. I watched the splits after gate 17 at the catwalk. The Doo guys are just as fast or faster than the Poo guys. The remaining 14 gates is where the talent kicks in, especially at gate 23 and higher.

IMO the single biggest problem with racing a doo in those conditions ,again is weight, power is great but when it gets rough and steep like above the catwalk. the reaction from the sled hitting those holes and rocks with the extra weight on a doo chassis is very exaggerated compared to the Polaris sleds and not just KCs . The other Polaris riders also enjoy the same advantage.
