Here is a graph of the lillooet river discharge flow of the last 102 years. Pretty easy to see the effect. The glaciers around here are rapidly melting out and the sled season is starting later and ending sooner than ever before. Lots of guys on here think the world is 6000 years old too. Doubt many minds are going to be changed by this post.

I definitely get the fact that the glaciers are diminishing (the big Athabasca glacier with all the signs is a great example) but most of the data is only in a very small time frame and actually just a drop in the bucket compared to "geological time". We won't be around to see if there is a change in the next couple hundred/thousand years and I won't be one of the ones making money on the present craze!

Did you honestly think that ice was gonna last forever?

Do you have any graphs back to the ice age when ice was forming like crazy and there was zero flow down the lillooet?

I hear yeah, but change is constant so enjoy it while it lasts.

Good ol' Saskatchewan has the best thinking; instead of a carbon tax use an incentive to cleanup the emissions. Provide grants for the innovators of cleaner emissions. I agree, that most of the rhetoric is related to money and there isn't a lot of real world hard core data going back through the centuries.
We do know that the world has gotten warmer and colder throughout its existence. Pre-ice age it was quite warm to host the dinosaurs and all the greenery that produced the huge amounts of coal, oil, and gas. When the world cooled down and the ice age came that would have been something to see with ice over the central plains. Now, a warming cycle? Some say (and provide the facts to back it up), we are actually cooling down again.

The Tesla store in Calgary was quite busy, I assume with greenies and staunch conservationists, and the license plate was the first thing I saw...................."No Emissions". People will swallow that hook, line, and sinker and not even think about the emissions for production and/or operation. Electricity has to come from somewhere and most electrical production is spewing out emissions of some kind. Brad Wall has an neat idea with the cleaning up of emissions and not taxing people for carbon as we need to drive, work, recreate, heat our homes in winter, cool them in the summer, and move all the goods what we consume and produce across this vast country.

I guess they've never seen a lithium mine ><.

I think the biggest issue is population, it really won't matter any of these green initiatives when half the world is having 8 kids, that kind of growth is not sustainable.

So all these new taxes on the way got me thinking, we have not yet seen any concrete evidence from our government that we humans are indeed responsible for climate change.

So....

1. Do you believe climate change is something man is responsible for.

2. Do you feel that a tax on CO2 emissions is gonna reverse the effects of climate change?

3. Where is the definitive scientific evidence?

1. NO
2. F*CK NO
3. Flying out of Al Gore's, the NDPs, the UN, and the Libs azzpipes. Whatever is convenient to push their agendas.

That is true Ray! But going back we don't really know what the weather was like other than the continent was covered by ice and it melted (thank goodness) allowing evolution to take place and our forefathers to enjoy their life. All I was referring to was that this cycle might be just a blip in the graphs and who really knows.

Some people say the climate is warming and others say it is cooling off. There is scientific data on both sides and I'm not like Suzuki making millions off all the hype.

We will run out of clean water before we run out of clean air.....

Historically the biggest chunk of funding for alternative energy research comes from energy producers (1st world anyway).....fancy that.

I believe that by introducing taxes/tariffs/penalties on energy producers and forcing them to change before the technology is reliable and cost effective we are impacting the amount of investment they put into researching alternative energies.

I have a real issue with the "reduced footprint" of anything that requires batteries, from electric cars to solar power....

Pollution Caused By Building a Hybrid Car - Does hybrid car production waste offset hybrid benefits? | HowStuffWorks

the new tidal-hydro turbine in the Bay of Fundy looks cool, but is being protested by fishermen so I don't know what the potential downfall is and a $30M unit powers 500 homes so I don't know if that is good bad or ugly compared to a coal or NG turbine.

I think we need to be conscious of our impact but many of natures changes climate/species/earthquakes would take place whether we were here or not...

If we as a species were wiped out today 1000 years from now there would be little evidence we ever existed.

One has to think for a minute.... No one person knows what the actual/mean temperature of earth actually should be. For all we know, we're still recovering from the last mini ice age and as a result the temperature is gradually climbing to what the real temperature should be. Remember we had dinosaurs and prehistoric jungles in northern alberta and yukon and alaska!!! Who has the right to say, man is causing any gradual temperature increases? How can anyone argue this? I'm sure countries like China with their heavy pollution of water, and the air doesn't help issues, but that is still small in comparison to Volcanic discharges, that can put more "real pollution" into the air in 1 week than all of mankind can do in an entire year. CO2 is required for forests/jungles/plants to exist, so without CO2 from somewhere, plantlife will decrease. Volcanoes of old, helped with the CO2 output to keep vegetation flourishing, but with the continental shelfs becoming more stable in the last 100000years or so, fewer volcanoes exist today, than previously, so has man actually helped this CO2 shortage??

your thoughts??

the big volcano eruption in the 90's in the philippins put more co2 in the air in one year than the entire history of man combined

I know for certain I can't heat my house any less and living 15min outside of brooks public transit is not an option for me. My family can not afford another tax. Especially on products essential to life.

maybe Leonardo and now the terminator can quit flying around the world burning a million times the fuel I burn making documentaries about how I am affecting the world. Fawking hypocrites if you ask me.

Man bun sporting mother fawker is burning 50,000L of fuel a day cruising around on a yacht, then has the gall to come to Alberta and try to screw us out of a decent standard of living.

Id take pleasure in gutting that POS:realmad:

Im thinking Al Gore and Suzuki are the cause of all this just to get rich. Plants need CO2 to live and grow. Well since these 2 asshats started their rampage in the late 80 early 90 the CO2 emissions have come down. So maybe the earth is dying because there isn't enough CO2 to keep plants living, producing nice clean oxygen. There are less trees in the world. less farm land growing plants. They should build to massive green house. I mean like 80 acres each. Fill them with plants trees and put co2 into one at about 400ppm and the other at 200ppm and see which one produces better and has better humidity and climate. I think we are starving the earth of an equal amount to CO2 since this all started.

I look at this and think there are bigger forces at play here than what man can inflict on old mother nature.

I agree we can clean up and it is in the best interest of our health.

But let's not punish our self's to the point of energy poverty.

The big polluters need the clean coal technology and other industry best technologies.

But

Green energy initiatives should not be subsidized. They must survive on their own economic merit.

My 2C

But it seems to me all the common sense seems to be drown out by the liberal media.

Hopefully Canada swings back to the right right wing hard like the USA .

One season of California wild fires produces more CO2 than what the US saves by reduction measures per year.
500 years ago people were able to farm on Greenland and raise cattle. After a couple decades the warm spell was over and all those farming communities either starved/froze to death or went back to Iceland. Who can we blame for that heat cycle Mr. Suzuki?

A few points to ponder.
Co2 is not an industrial pollutant like acid rain, furans, dioxins etc. It naturally occurs in our atmosphere and is necessary for photosynthesis to occur. Mankind can't live without it.
Greenland wasn't named Greenland because back in the day some Viking had a sense of humour. In recorded history they cultivated grain there, then came the mini ice age we are now just coming out of that made it a cold barren place.
The climate change rhetoric is driven by the elitists that feel the need to control us underlings and want to direct the flow of other people's wealth from the prosperous to the poorer less developed countries. ( they don't use THEIR money to try and effect change, just everyone else's. It's the white privilege thing. They think we should be ashamed to be prosperous and white). They either exempt themselves from the changes, or claim because they buy carbon offsets they're free to continue their lives of excess. ( kinda like saying because I bought my neighbours garbage can, I can throw my garbage out onto the street).
should we stop industrial pollution, clean up toxic waste dumps, remove the garbage from the oceans, recycle and reduce waste?? Absolutely.
Should we implement idiotic carbon taxes that make us poorer, uncompetitive, and do nothing for the environment? Absolutely not!
Morons like Trudeau, decaprio, Obama etc don't give a rats a$$ about climate change or anything else but themselves. They make noise about it so they have something to chat about at their dinner parties on their yachts or in one of their many mansions. They never have nor ever will reduce their emissions or any other aspect of their lives of excess. The need for climate change only applies to us serfs and peons. Not our betters in the ruling elites.

Running a four generation farm we have a realetivly decent logs of moisture and temps threw the years backing from the late 1800s.. What we have seen in the last decade is pretty spectacular for weather patterns on the farm, we have seen such extremes that none of our records have ever shown before, last year was the least rain we ever had.. This year we had the most ever recorded on the farm

understand that the last century is a spit in the bucket when it comes to earths life overall, but we have broke many records lately with out question and it seams it's only envolves warmer temps, and the effects they make

with glaciers disappearing at a alarming rate, this needs more than people's oppions, we have no time to lose here!! Just heard this week Alaska will be seeking a new record again for warm temps.. Today alone Fairbanks was warmer than we here
