As of October 25 at 12:01am, the tobacco tax goes up:
• $5 per carton (to $55) of 200 cigarettes
• 75 cents (to 41.25 cents) per gram of loose tobacco
• 142% (up from 129%) of the taxable price of the cigar with a minimum tax per cigar of 27.5 cents and a maximum of $8.61
With this increase, rates will be comparable to neighbouring provinces and generate $45-55M in additional revenue.
