Ya…I’m interested in that as well
As soon you go into out of service area. My phone lets me know I can text. My brother and I were on the parkway and he was able to text by holding his phone against the windshield. We didn’t even know about it. . Now I’ve got it too.

Apple partnered with Globalstar for it's text to satellite service. Which is the same provider that serves Spot. Their network isnt near as good as the Iridium constellation that Inreach and Zoleo use, but it's sure better than nothing, you might just wait a bit to get service if you don't have a perfectly unobstructed view of the sky like against the mountains, trees or in a valley.

Currently a free service. They’ve said free for first two years with a new phone.
When out of coverage area (SOS) you can turn on satellite in the services HUD (pull down from top), or just try texting and it’ll ask if you want to connect to sat. Won’t do it on airplane mode must be off grid. It will then show you where to aim your phone to connect to the closest satellite. It will lose reception once you put your phone back in your bag but easy enough to reconnect next stop. Pretty simple to use. While connected you have two way texting with other phones (iPhone or android). If someone messages while you’re disconnected it will come through when you reconnect. You can also text emergency services/911.
I used it a lot for work and dirt biking this summer and it’s never skipped a beat. After several months of success I ditched the inreach as it essentially works the same in needing visibility to satellite to send/receive. I also carry a phone cable and my helmet light can charge if phone ever dies from the cold.
