The 670 is mine in a couple weeks!!!!! Yay!!! With that being said, I would like to get some insurance for it so i can go out riding with my buddies. It is 97 Summit 670 and i want to only get the basics. Being just theft and fire coverage. Does anybody know how much that would cost me? I came up with an estimate of around 250 a year? Is this relatively in the same ball park?

I have a 98 summit 670 that I just insured for 70.00 through TD Insurance. That included PLPD and theft / fire. Full coverage was gonna be 120.00

Go to your Broker and have them quote you at least three differant markets.
If you go thorugh a Direct writer like Co-operators, not that they are bad, but, you only get their price.
If you are "In the middle of no where" like your handle suggests, the rate would be lower for theft than if you were in Edmonton or another major center where everything has to be nailed down.

Were in the middle of backroads galore. The nearest town is 15 km away, so yeah we are in the boonies

Through cooperators I pay 160 a year for my m1000 and 90 a year for my firecat that's full coverage. That's after a wrote off sled claim and about 5 grand claim on a new quad Wich raised my premium. My brother in law pays 70 for his 99 formula z through them as well so that should give you an idea.

Get an online quote from TD at:

Most insurance companies will not let you get fire/theft insurance without having liability insurace as well.

Liability + fire/theft will probably be about $100. Collision insurance will cost you signficantly more and depends on the value of the sled and your age.

For my 2009 sled I would pay about $200 for liability and fire/theft, plus $200 for collision insurance (can't remember the deductable). That is with no tickets, accidents, or claims ever. I don't insure with TD but their rates are in the ballpark (atleast for liability and fire/theft).

I think having full coverage on any "toys" is a great idea.

I had full coverage on my '04 Summit, smacked a big rock a few years ago and left it sit for a few months before I actually looked into my insurance and saw that my accident would be covered. They ended up paying me out because the cost to fix was going to be much more. I was payed "fair market value" for the sled and my premiums when up $36 a year to a whopping $286.

I have all my toys covered. There are many times when you could be at a loss if you didn't cover it properly. Should you get in an accident and be traillering or hauling your sled on a deck, many times the sled is not covered under your vehicle coverage. Many people believe it is until they look at their policy. $350-400 for piece of mind isn't a lot considering how much riding we do.

If its $100 a year for an older sled and was going to be $200 for full coverage and it was a decent sled I would consider it.

That is crazy. I would be looking into another insurance company cause I have never heard of someone paying that much. My brother in law just bought a 2011 renegade 800 etec I will find out how much he pays at the cooperators for insurance.

You might want to ask if there is any discount for being a member of a snowmobile club. I got 25% off on my insurance.

Maybe so but thats sounds like BS for full coverage. I got PL & PD is just under a hundred for each sled. I pay $92.00 for my wifes 1999 Polaris 500. Unless your insuring a 1965 sled
