Perfect timing for a bike thread. Looking for something to use around the road and park trails with my dog. No idea what a good budget is or a size to look for so any suggestions would be great. Can start my own thread if the OP wants or can keep it in this one

I'm 6' 5" pushing 200lbs and have a 29'er Cannondale. Everyone told me I "needed" a 29'er. After 3 seasons on 29'ers I will never get another. Never did understand the hype and could never get any concrete answers on the 29" versus 27.5" wheel after numerous hours of in store and online research. What I did conclude after riding the 29'ers for a while is that a 29'er has more cons then pros...for me, and that my next MTB will be a 27.5.

This is the start to our pump track in the back yard under the big willows for summer shade. Riding the birm with the dirt bikes to form it out but this will be for BMX and mountain bikes when done.

Pulled out the bikes last week after I stepped on the scale. Kids can bike fore hours. I was the same when I was a kid. Didn’t matter what it was. 2 wheel and a chain and I would ride er.

My Stump Jumper is a 29. It was the new sexy thing on the block when I bought it. I would get a 27.5 if I could do it again

Agreed with above comments 27.5 is a great all round 29 is nice on the choppy rough trails I find. But it is for sure a different feeling.

I'm not nearly that tall, about 5'10 with a 32" inseam but riding while wrestling a strong 80lb dog should I go with something slightly smaller? My two biggest wants are good gears and brakes. Suspension isnt as important. Is there a set up which runs a single lever dual brake set up? That may be beneficial to me?

I bought a 2020 Scott Aspect 940. Was 969$, got it for 780$ from Revolution. Hard tail 29er with all shimano components including the hydraulic discs, remote front shock lockout. She chews, had it out a few times already this weekend. Thanks for replies

Let's see a photo of the new bike! Best place I've found for mountain biking around Edmonton is Terwilliger Park trails along the riverbank down to the Henday bridge.

Don't be fooled,,, the BRC solid is still a pretty good bike for all out general uses... The non-shock Front Fork design has been around for alot of years and its still in production even today...

Yes,,, I could return to the old school bikes after chasing Kows with it yesterday,,, Mooooooo... Ha

so you are saying you found this old bike out behind a straw bale. looks good, now get on and ride!!!! haha

What is a good beginner MTB for under 500 bucks? This would be used on country roads mainly, nothing extreme.

What I’ve found when shopping is forget Frame brands, look at components. Everything is assembled with the same parts and they’re only different combinations.

shimano is good stuff and has many levels of quality
tek tro is entry level stuff

I love the 29” wheels but they make 27.5” and 26” wheels still.

Best advise I can give is go to a reputable bike shop. You will pay a little more but will get a quality bike and service if you need. Won't get service at Canadian Tire.

5k buys 5lbs in weight reduction. Kinda like sleds eh?
