Sending letters to SPCA is a waste of time. They will base their decision on the facts, not anyones opinion. If the dude reported it earlier, there will be someone to say, yeah, he told me or not. These guys have enough work to do without having to wade through the emails of a thousand well meaning but possibly uninformed people that have no factual information to add to the investigation.
Kudos to the rescuers and everyone that donated, you were part of something to be proud of. Merry Christmas.

Perhaps so,maybe some e-mails to the local MP or MLA would garner some attention.Would any body have these addresses

I would like to send out a heartfelt congratulations and well wishes to everyone that has been involved with this rescue! I was so happy to hear that the horses are finally free and can begin their long recovery! I've been a horse girl since forever and was mad and saddened by the whole scenario! I was however super impressed with all the people that spent countless hours, energy and dollars to rescue two of god's most beautiful creatures! Its good to know that people can come together like they have for this rescue! Well done everyone! happy holidays to one and all!!!

Everyone involved this was an amazing story that has a great ending, thank you from another horse/animal lover! I can only imagine what a monumental task it must have looked/felt like taking those first couple of shovel fulls, I'm sure it also was a task to plan and organize. Those horses belong to all of you in the Village of McBride, I would be so disappointed to see them go back to the owner. He had plenty of time to put up posters, call some locals, spca, or come out and shovel, It seems to me from what I've read, that he was only interested in them once the story got so big.

"Their owner thinks he is coming to McBride to pick them up, but there needs to be an investigation before he gets them back , if he ever gets them back. He thinks he will get them handed back to him no problem, no questions asked. He called on Tuesday night and said we were to deliver them to a specified farm in McBride and he would be along to take them back to Alberta."

If the SPCA can't/won't stop him, surely the horses can be held as surety until the owner pays for the cost of the rescue.

I think I would let the SPCA conduct and finish their investigation. These horses would be evidence in that investigation, hence I don't think they can be released. Further, I think it would be incumbent upon a Veterinarian's statement that these horses could be transported that distance back to Alberta.
Who is this lawyer from Alberta ?

That is a very good point - if he wants his horses back he can cover the cost of the rescue???

If the best interest of the horses is consideration, and he left them to die, I don't believe he should have those horses at any price.....

Does anyone know who is responsible for making the final decision regarding the horses - will it be the BC SPCA?

This lawyer states he made 3 failed attempts at saving his horses.

I've not read of a 4th try.

I say he should, via a 2nd party:

1) Apologize for his inexperience at handling horses.

2) Thank profusely those who saved the horses.

3) In a gesture of sincerity, sign over the horses.

4) Donate 6 months care for these 2 horses.

A court fight would reveal his name. He doesn't want that.

I agree he should not have them at any cost, and should have any other animal seized as well. I guess I'm just a little flabbergasted that he thinks he can just come up to McBride and pick them up no questions asked, (does he even have a conscience?) even though they have been seized by the BCSPCA. Also it just goes to show he doesn't care about the horses well being at all b/c right now they are very weak and all he wants to do is come and get them, and trailer them what 4 hours back to Edmonton.... I believe the spca will have the final say but they will have to prove the case, of abandonment.

I think the trailer ride would be very hard on these horses, hence the opinion of a Veterinarian would be required by the appropriate parties. I think that any Veterinarian would be very careful from a professional conduct perspective in giving a clean bill of health for these horses, given their current weak state of health, as he would be liable to complaint from the public and potential sanction after a formal investigation by the B.C. College of Veterinary Medicine. After-all these horses are in the public limelight and everyone wants to make sure the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.

Thanks for the email addresses. I hope lots of people will write to them. As well, keep up the pressure on the SPCA.
The horses are doing well, eating and drinking lots. They are in a barn, but we can't disclose their location, therefore no pics. They seem very content though and are starting to show their true characters.
