Heres my thoughts on the belt drive.

So..... I watched the video, and I would not have used a dragster as a comparison. I see the point of this thread, and I would like to see or know if they tighten the phuck out of the dragon chain case (if they did)? If the chain case has enough free play as the CMX system, I think the numbers would have been more relative.

He botched the whole thread, starting with the dragster example, then stellar math work, and finally the witty comebacks. LHF must be a long lost descendant of Archimedes.

I don't think the difference between and belt is actually that much until very high RPM and rotating mass comes into effect....belt drives are quieter, and less maintenace...if they were that much better than a chain all the OEM's would have a version by now

I can agree with this. A 1/2 electric drill will make more torque, but not the rotating mass that requires a higher RPM. If they would do the same test, with a drill that makes the torque and can spin at 12,000 RPM. I think it would be a fairer comparison.

I bet if we put a torque wrench on my jackshaft it will take less ft/lbs than a Polaris belt drive to turn over.
You are trying to compare apples to oranges. But if you were to compare a new pro to a new assault with an honest test I would be really interested in seeing the results. Thoughts? I'm sure there will be plenty. LOL.

You are trying to compare apples to oranges. But if you were to compare a new pro to a new assault with an honest test I would be really interested in seeing the results. Thoughts? I'm sure there will be plenty. LOL.

Done it,the Assault was less, Pro 21ft, Assault 19ft, XM 15ft, according to my snap on torque wrench..

Im going to go out on a limb here and say i have to agree with lhf. The proof is the fact you have to set the belt cold with ton of deflection. Why you ask well as the pulleys and belt heat up the gears grow the belt shrinks. Only one thing that causes that kind of heat in this particular set up and that is friction and you sure dont get that with gears and chains. Is there anyone on here that can say they took what they thought was a well setup sled, installed a belt drive and ONLY the belt drive and saw one of 2 things. An increase in rpm on the top end or an increase of mph on the top end?? Id even ask if they could say it accelerates faster than a comparable machine with gear and chain set?? The other question I ask is how accurately is the rubber link between drive shaft and jack shaft delivering the load to a torque/load sensing secondary clutch as load either increases or decreases on the track?? The theory of decreasing rotating mass is a good one, my self I would spend my money on other rotating components.

All I know is that after putting TKI belt drives on my 2 2013 Pro RMK's, I definitely need the parking brake as they will roll away in a strong wind. Maybe a little exaggeration but seriously, you can turn the track with a couple fingers.


AND I am comparing to the quick drive belt drive that is banjo tight from the factory.

I have a buddy with a 2010 summit 800 he went belt drive and they recommended a lower gear ratio than what he's running now ,but he chose the same gear ratio that he's running with the chain.To his surprise he lost track speed .Now that efficient Lol but still has a cool factor.Lmao

I really noticed the difference in rolling resistance when I changed out the cheese grater stock track on my '08 to a camo extreme. before the change you could push or pull the sled easily with one hand on the rear bumper, once the camo extreme was on it was way more difficult to roll the sled back and forth.

Crankshop910....did you perform your experiment with tracks off the sleds? would be interesting to see the results with both track on and track off, as well as with belt/chain drive off and on to see where the most resistance comes from.
