Morning all.

Update from Quartz Creek yesterday.

EPIC. Friday night’s storm dumped about a foot of fresh everywhere, and the strong winds re-allocated a lot of it to leeward slopes. This resulted in several smaller avy’s on eastern, windloaded slopes in mid-afternoon. It also piled up some blower deep pockets of pow which were a blast to hammer through.

We arrived about 9:30 and met by a RCMP giving us the hairy eyeball at the lot entrance (not sure what he was looking for), then a CO running his pen out of ink up at the trail pass booth for plate, insurance, and registration infractions. All 3 lots were pretty well full and included BC, AB, and SK plates. #1 hwy was creepily quiet going there and back. There was a somewhat reduced volume showing from the 2-planker wanker crowd which dissolves as you get rid of a bunch at Sunshine then again at Louise.

Trail is now groomed right to the parking lot and is in good shape for early season.

Great to see that the Golden detachment is still the shining star of all detachments in Canada!

Not that I saw. The digital billboard just east of Ten Mile Hill said something like “covid-19, avoid non-essential travel”. No cops or checks between Calgary and Quartz, and the only RC we saw was at the lot entrance. Just me and the wife in the truck, and lots of mixed loads of 3-4 dudes unloading. Didn’t hear any chatter about getting hassled by RC, only the CO guy hammering out plate/reg awards at the booth.

Silent-parking at 27/ fresh groom. Way to much traffic over the weekend. Pretty hammered out...never seen so many people up there before. Conditions were deep, light, dry. Go anywhere....

hwy from cgy to golden in both directions had heavy rcmp presence doing radar looking for any type of infraction to pull u over...

Went to quartz on Friday and ya, there was two rcmp cars at the gate , but they didn’t even look at us driving so I chalked their presence up as radar and visiting ??

On a different note ....Help requested

I was hoping to Spot for next time out the West Bench trail entrance at the quartz side for taking a new rider buddy of mine that just bought a sled ..but I didn’t see a trail entrance at all from the gate heading towards the quartz cabin....Where the heck is the entrance to the West bench trail? The maps show it right at the toll gate but I didn’t see squat ?? How far from the staging is that trail ??

Thanks in advance !!

just to follow up, despite some peoples posts... snow levels are down compared to the last 2 years. Just my opinion, i would say substantial down to be honest. some trees still have leaves on them HA!

Big difference is there is a definitive base, not snowpack full of air. You can go anywhere right now and your track hooks up...I agree less snow than usual but better snow for movement

1st time riding in Golden.
Was a great trip.

We hired Golden Snowmobile Rentals to guide us the 1st day. Was definitely worth the money.

Rode Quartz the second day. She needs a reload. Need to hunt hard in the trees to find snow.

Surface hoar was really cool. Big Crystals. May create a weak layer as the season goes on.
