The $19.95 plan includes sending unlimited preset messages which is mostly what I use. I have 3 set up.
1) everything is ok
2) delayed but nothing serious
3) minor issue. Text you soon
I typically send my wife about 10 preset messages a day to let her know I'm ok. The first is always where the truck is and same with the last. I definitely do not want to have a texting conversation while all that untouched snow is waiting.
You're allowed 10 custom text messages per month and each one after 10 is 50 cents per message.
It would take quite a few messages at 50 cents to get to the next billing level.
The beauty of InReach is the ability to suspend service for the months you won't be using it.
I had a Spot and didn't realize when I clicked on the buy tracking for 1.50 that is was pro-rated for the remainder of the year. Once you sign up, you can never cancel it.
I called and said your service is too expensive compared to your competitor that offers 2 way communication, please make a note on my account to not renew.
They offered to knock the price down about $100 and I was even more choked thinking why isn't this your regular rate anyway.

When you send a preset message, does it include your gps position?
This is what you get and you can text back and forth. You can have preset or typed messages using phone app. $15.70 per month:

Thanks! Was looking at the inReach Mini and explorer plus. Also looked at the monthly plans. On the basic plan, are you billed $0.10 for receiving text messages as well?
For those that have the explorer plus, what are your thoughts on the tops maps?
