Airplane mode you can still get wifi service. So it would still effect it no?

Was not sure on this so I just turned my airplane mode on and I lost all connections and no wifi or internet at all.

So carry that one step further and put your beacon on the table with it turned on in transmit mode (send). Put your phone on top of it in airplane mode. Take another beacon and "search" for the beacon on the table. Is there any interference?

Ok I try to explain where, at the very bottom of hill just before you go up to the nutch there are markers showing a creek, so coming half way down before that creek you go left and it goes up to an area with sweet opening with tree riding on a slope, so at bottom of that area we ended up going down in the trees thinking when we get to bottom we can turn around. But buddy ended up in that creek and place to turn around, so now it is trenches dug out and just a mess of us trying to get out for ten hrs, we are prepared to spend the night out if we had to, and at one point started a fire to warm up our hands. If we had leave machines there and walk out to main trail and start fire untill someone came out next day, but we also didn't want search and rescue to come out. So my questions to anyone is, 1- is there a channel or frequency that you are able to contact anyone, and
2- what are procedure for search and rescue to get started, if our trucks were found in am not moved, I think this can be informative for others if ever in this position, we also started to rashin our snacks and drinks the minute we knew we were in trouble....thx

Glad you made it out on your own I know the spot there's a easy way out but it's hard to find if your unaware of the area and the creeks this year sure can lead to some nasty stucks!

Thx, we wanted to follow the creek upwards back to main pipeline but snow is 6ft deep over creek and water just deep enough to get over boots and didn't think we can track through the creek that far before we are soaked to the bones. I would like to know more about that area, just to see what other choices we had, easy if in sky looking down, lol thx

This to me seems like a good spot to use the inReach. My belief is you can notify their base and let them know you are prepared to spend the night and are in good condition. Am I wrong in this thought process?

Your right..as long as you have their contact e-mail or phone number that will take text. Or contact someone that will get hold of them. The inreach will basically allow you to send and receive text or e-mail from anywhere to any number or e-mail (as long as it can connect to satellites). Happy with mine so far!

Thankfully haven't had to use mine yet, but it's nice to have that insurance!

What do you mean by "notify their base"?

I use my InReach just about every ride. Tracking enabled and the gf can see where we are and when we are heading down. Sending and receiving texts is handy. Msg to say we are running late or push dinner reservations at Zalas back lol.

OK, so I did this today as it is to cold to play outside and I have two beacons so was able to do it. Turned it to airplane mode and searched and it picked it up right away as well then turned airplane mode off with wifi and cell activated and it picked it up right away also. Do it from several spots in the house and same results.

So did it pick up the phone signal separately from the beacon? Or did it have no effect on the beacon?

Shortly before your friend explained to me that a cell phone will interfere with my beacon- my phone was on when he did his initial beacon search in the parking lot, and quickly/successfully located me....

Sorry its GEOS dispatcher not their base, just didnt know the proper acronym without checking their website

To notify their base or GEOS I'm thinking you need to activate the SOS feature and that's all that is done. I don't think there is any conversation with the dispatcher. You can send messages to your contacts that will explain what you are doing and what you are planning.

That's what I found also. Funny that we are told to turn off the phone or leave it in the truck.

Different beacons respond worse to interference. The peips and ortovox that flip open are hopeless when and phones or other devices. It had been well researched. Do you want to take the chance of flux lines aligning the right way when buried under snow and not being able to be found quickly?

Hi there not sure what one to get in search or spot, both are different but aguess depends what you want. One is more money then the other, but sounds like you can get an app to go with I search or something. I will research more into them. I defferently don't want Peale to be texting back and fourth as I'm riding there is enough of that already, lol
