If you like stumps, come down to the east koots. What a crappy ending to the year. Might get 1 more ride in but I've never seen snow levels this low in early April. Parking where we normally park in after Easter.

That sucks! Was not the end to the year I was hoping for. Going to be camping in Fernie at may long might just bring the dirt bike down.

Are you allowed to ride dirt bikes in the same area as the sled trails?

T....................

Generally speaking, dirt bikes are allowed on bladed roads (roads made by a caterpillar, etc..). So that is all Forest Service Roads. There are some exceptions throughout the Elk Valley but I am not familiar with all of them as I do not ride in the summer months.

Thanks Ferniesnow I will have to do some searching.

There is a little single track up Coal Cr though it had not been ridden much when I had taken my bike up there years ago. There was also some mountain bike single track as well.

Honestly for better single track you are better off going to Blairmore or Kook unless you just want to ride the FSR which you can all day up Coal.

A little snow in the forecast yes but there are several signs that lead me to believe it’s going to be more spring than winter from now on. Seeing ring billed gulls (sea gulls) and other migratory birds that we don’t normally see until late April and into May. There were thunderstorms near my places yesterday, again a later spring occurrence.

It’s still likely we will get a few snowfalls and those lucky enough to catch them will be rewarded with some good spring pow. A webcam I use a lot has a snow stake and it gained 16”inches in the last two days but is forecasted to have rain to 6200’ today.

IMHO, east Kootenay riding is caputski!! Whether we get new snow or not, the base is so rotten that the hazards are dangerous; rocks, stumps, and broken trees. Had a buddy, hit a rock the other day and did major damage to the A-arms, steering, and spindle not to mention a trip over the bars. A trail ride to elevation to look at the views and a sweet snack of garlic shrimp/scallops might be manageable but I'm now into other ventures.

For me, the sled(s) are in covered storage until hopefully, next November. The season of 2018-19 was a bust even tho' I got 45 days in.

Have to agree. Sleds are put away and the tracks are coming off the RZR this week.

Yup I’m summerized already. Didn’t put mile 1 on the machine in the Koots this year. Pretty sad.

Rode the Alberta side today with the kids and a buddy. Snow was rotten to the dirt. Really weird to ride in. Want to try to get one more day in then put the machines away.

I left my sleds at home but went to the ski hill yesterday. Snow is basically gone at the lower mountain. You start getting into snow at about 5000 feet and there is coverage at 5500 and up but it's spring soft snow and quite a bit has melted. But there's definitely enough for a ride.
Ski.cam showed almost another foot overnight too.

Good call...looks sweet. where were you riding?

Decided to hit the ski hill on the last weekend instead of riding. Sunday was good skiing and we got to rock to BC/DC on Saturday and Five Alarm Funk on Sunday.

Ya, I shredded the hill Sunday. It was amazing. You know where I am sledding, it's always one of the last places you can go late in the season.
