We have a neighbour who bought land beside us when I was a kid. It’s poor land, lots of alkali, and they decided to go “organic” and plant grass. Well the Kochia weed took over the entire thing and we got a strong south eastern wind and it spread all the seeds onto our field in a straight line. Cut our field in half now for years some years aren’t as bad. But years we plant lentils we dont usually even combine it, just bale it into feed.

I have a organic guy beside me wnd he does a pretty good job overall, he told me i should leave a 50 foot buffer between our fields i said i spray and farm to my property line i paid for acres in gunna farm them
He can make the buffer on his side, we have never had a spray issue before but ya some organic guys i tell ya are just weed farmers

Wild that someone would think you'd leave a 50' buffer on your own land hahaha. Organic farmers are a different breed

That is wild. Like holy fawk. Dad always used to say that most organic farmers were the guys that sucked at conventional farming and that going organic was their last ditch effort at saving the farm which usually failed too.

Here's some google earth pictures of our predicament. Bad enough you can see it from google earth. picture with the doodles is showing the way the wind went in red, and blue is the drainage. We had a wet spring that our lentils did not do well, then drought for the rest of the year. But yeah, first two pictures are a lentil crop from 2022, and then the last picture is a barley crop. With it swathed you can see the line of kochia weed. And to think settlers brought those stupid seeds over with them, just like the dandelion .

Yeah man, that's well within our range. Just send me a PM when conditions look good to get around in the fields.

Got bored and was exploring google earth, first two pictures are from one of our pastures. Gophers are pretty bad in. and the last one was a hay field we broke because the gophers were so bad the field you couldn't cut hay it was half dirt because gopher mounds and they ate all the grass. So we broke it and planted canola. After a healthy poisoning the following spring you can see the colonies that survived.

I prefer to put barley into old wooden floor flat bottom bins that have the afternoon sun beating down where you unload. Did I mention it has to be 30+ degrees? Oh and the wind has to be blowing directly at you wherever you stand. And the truck doesn’t have air conditioning. Said my dad from the air conditioned combine.

I hear yah. I have no hair on my legs about 8” above my ankles. Tore every root out of my lower leg scratching back when we grew it. Get the chills just thinking about that crap. Lol

We grew canary seed one year then the price tanked so we through it in wooden bins for storage went back to get the ch!t, never been itchier in my life makes barley seem enjoyable one and only year that stuff was on the farm

I remember those days growing up. Replace barley with fescue. Lol. Good times.
