you think with as many guys in that colony and with how hot it was they would have theri own water truck ready to go for a situation like that... we were told they had daily fires up to that point, but got them out... rumor has it they are switching to red after this year

water isn't going to do much except keep the field from burning...diesel and rubber are hard to extinguish...

Nothing new with the crows. They seem to light something up at least once a year around here. You would think when a half million dollar combine is starting to burn that a few more of them would be showing some interest.

I heard those things are lighting up because the exhaust temps are so high because of the new emission crap on there! But that is from a red mechanic so it might be bullsh.. too !

Almost half a million, gone just like that. :(

They should have it insured. We always tell the help if it starts on fire to get out and watch it awhile before calling the fire dept. Otherwise if you dont let it burn good the insurance company will make you fix it and not pay full price. We all know its never the same after a fire no matter the magnitude.

If they paid cash for it they might not of. Talked to a hut once about a hailstorm in the area. He was whining about losing some acres. I told him they would get covered with hail or crop insurance and he said they don't believe in insurance. Not sure if he meant farm equipment and buildings as well?

Nice to be done. Have a lot of you already sold a fair bit or playing the waiting game? Pulled the trigger on all of our barley at 5.83/bu picked up at the farm. Canola seems to be on the upward trend once again.

Was talking to the service manager at my Deere dealership today and told him about this fire. He said the area rep sent him pics and said the fire was started by an alternator problem I guess. He has pics showing the Hutts not even trying to put the fire out and the other combines continuing to combine while it went up in a fireball. What a bunch of fawkin azzhats!

Hot off the press, i just finished figuring yields on all our farm. As a whole we averaged

On corn- 174.89 bu/ac over 2296 acres.

On soybeans- 49.1 bu/ac over 2362 acres.

All harvested by one combine so the moisture was pretty low by the time we finished either crop. Could have been a little better if we got it all harvested at ideal moisture.

as for the colonys burndown, we were told they were not to happy with the deeres this year... they brought a red one out at the end of harvest and simpson flew down to discuss a future deal... no word yet what they have done

The Deeres definately had some first year problems but like sleds sometimes that happens when you push things to fast to be better.
