Good looking herd and grandson. Looks like that young fella has the makings of a great cattlemen. I have a few cows in the foothills west of Calgary. If it wasn't for the horses I wouldn't have cows (no cattlemen in my county just cowboys). Since 2003 its been tough for producers here in Canada with the exception of the last couple of years. Seems like we just got thru BSE but it seems like your new president may tighten things up for imports of Canadian beef. I know that R-Calf USA is anxiously awaiting inaugeration day. Just wonder what your thought are.
Thanks for the kind words.

I am not a member or supporter of R-Calf. I think we'd do well to act like a North American aggregate of cattle producers for the benefit of producers, feedyards, packers, and marketing, and our products should be labeled as such. I think it would be a good idea to identify and differentiate our products from what comes in from Latin America. There are a number of health and feed additive issues down there, and as you know, our products aren't labeled as to country of origin. Canada has some access to China, and some other markets that we really don't, because of measures you've taken since the discovery of BSE. Hopefully you'll have some benefit from that, and ultimately, I think you'll be able to deal with Trump. It's going to be interesting. Our consumers down here will consume more beef, IMO, if the economy picks up and there aren't so many "chicken" budgets, largely from the huge financial burden to working families known as Obamacare. Prices down here aren't much to brag about at this point, and there's a good bit of pressure from other protein sources, but maybe we'll see a rising tide that'll help float all boats to some extent. Lots of guessing going on right now, and we are probably more intertwined with the different markets than it seems at face value. Best of luck.

Harvest was one thing this fall.
Keeping everthing from heating this winter is gonna be another.

Fun sport sometimes.

Just thought I would throw this out there but I am looking for a pickup mounted truck sprayer, like the one summers mfg makes. Anyone want to get rid of one or know where I could find one?

Was wondering about a lot of crops still out there. Is insurance companies making you combine it or is it all to be plowed under in most cases?

Soooo with all the moisture still in the ground and crops laying around in swaths all winter, is there anything to salvage? Hit it on the frost? Wait for it to dry? Disc it under? Be nice to know...

Will your county let you burn? Ours only 40 acre at a time, permits out the wazoo.

$100,000 fine for no permit.

I'm not a farmer, just live on 9 acres. Our local sled trail system was closed this winter due to crops being out. The deer never got the memo... I'm just wondering what farms will have to salvage if anything?

Canola there should be something.
Wheat, Barley is doubtful - hope it makes feed grade.

The trick will be getting it off in time to seed.

Insurance is making alot of guys combine or only giving partial payment cause they want them to bail it.

Which is kinda ****ed cause they insured it as a crop not feed....

Hey guys. Is everyone aware of the federal governments initiative to look into the deferral of grain cheques by Canadian farmers? Its been in all the news sources and the Western Producer in the last week. Thoughts? This is something that is going to impact Canadian farms and tax strategies for us for a long time. The government is now doing consultations on this and has opened an email address for farmers to give their thoughts. You need to respond! The email link closes May 24/17. Once again a government plans stuff that affects farmers at a busy time of the year with seeding and calving going on. Take the time now to make your voice heard. Here are a couple links for you to make yourself heard. I spent an hour today emailing the link, my MP and the federal Ag minister.

Lawrence MacAulay- Federal Agriculture Minister: lawrence.macaulay@parl.gc.ca

Link for farmers to express their view: consultation_tax_2017@canada.ca

Tell everyone you can about this!
