Farmers aren't loving this thread like they did last year. Wonder what happened?

I've been so damn busy I haven't had time to post in this thread.

But it doesn't look too bad here. Corn looks like its gonna be pretty good. Don't know about 200 BPA but surely 185 to 190. Its gonna be wet corn though, no way around that. Beans look tough and late. Some will be lucky to be knee high by harvest. Too wet too early for beans. Lots of dampening off early. It mostly depends how much sun we get in August. We will definitely be collecting crop insurance if we get an early frost. Beans look to be a good 3 weeks behind normal.

Very happy with our crops in ne sask. Just small pockets of good crops across the province with a bunch of average to below average. Hasn't been very warm with high temps in the low 20's. Rain adequate, small percentage spraying for midge, worms, etc. With the low commodity prices, Im glad im not leveraged to the nuts. Hopefully some big guys drop so that the market is flooded with land and prices drop. Easy to keep prices high when only a quarter or 2 sell each month.

Another day hauling hay outta the swamp here in Manitoba.
This is the time of year that always reminds me that I need to get the sleds ready. Lol ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375846492.146586.jpg

We run a horse breeding operation and have till this year shared the hay 1/3 - 2/3 with a local farmer that had haying equipment.
He opted out so we decided to buy some used equipment a 114 haybine and a co-op 560 round baler.....

spent three days getting the two piecs ready to go,

on the baler all the oiler lines were either busted or missing, repaired 15 of the 35 belts, cleaned and greased or oiled, it seems to be running now....

On the haybine, replaced 6 broken grease zerks, and 1- roller chain, missing 1/2 of its rollers...fabed a plate and welded in place as it was missing 1/2 between the auger and conditioner rollers.

Put it to work on Monday and was doing good for about 2 hours, then a drive chain broke, fixed that and went back to work, 15 min later the PTO shaft broke off....

Now some guys are saying ...."oh ya the older style hyd pumps that dont lock on, can walk around and put to much stress on the shaft....you should build an support to take some weight and hold it from walking off"

Now they tell me.....

Shafts on order, should be in a couple of days, Deutz got one thing right the PTO shaft comes off easy.....

Was this common ?

Starting to think I should have hunted down another guy to cut our hay.....

Yes it was. Lol
happened to us lots when we had ours.

But if you think your having troubles with the haybine wait till you fire up that coop. Watch for bearings puking on it as they are pretty lightweight. Neighbour had one back in the day. He was kinda stressed fairly often.

Good luck

Thanks, I expected some problems, as the baler, haybine and rake were only $3,000, just not the PTO trouble....

Did you ever come up with a fix , I think I will attempt to build a support to carry the weight and hold the pump in place....

According to insect hatchings, thunder storms, and farmers almanac they figure frost here could be first week MAYBE second week in September. Gonna be a sad sad harvest here all the way around if that happens. :(

Yes you are right. Good quality grain will be at a premium.
