Does anyone use an additive to completely remove ethanol from their fuel? Does the 94 octane from chevron contain any ethanol?

I'm not aware of any additive that will do that. You can separate the ethanol from the gasoline using water to absorb the ethanol and then drain off the water/ethanol mix which is heavier than the gasoline so it settles on the bottom. The problem is that you are then left with a low octane pure gasoline (because of the removal of the high octane ethanol component) so you will probably require octane boosters. Also there is a problem of what to do with the water/ethanol mix as it is corrosive to a lot of plastics, etc.
I would suspect that Chevron 94 octane fuel contains ethanol in order to get the octane at that rating because non ethanol premium pump gasoline is 91 octane.

retiredpop, do you know if that 94 octane fuel at Petro Canada is also an ethanol fuel? Would this be bad for a sled?

I don't know for sure but I would suspect it has ethanol in it to get that octane rating. I have heard that Shell premium is the only gas in Alberta that is ethanol free but maybe other stations get their premium from Shell. In Montana the premium fuel that is clearly marked as being non-ethanol is rated at 91 octane and not 94. Best bet is to write them and ask.

It's not necessarily bad for a sled especially if you go through a lot of fuel on a consistent basis. I understand the problem is that the ethanol attracts moisture and then it settles out in the tank at the bottom (where the fuel pickup is). If you let your sled sit for a few weeks between uses then it may not be good. Also if it does separate apparently the mixture of ethanol and water is quite corrosive to certain types of plastic such as fuel lines.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think 94 Chevron fuel on the coast has ethanol. I think they lift the octane rating with isooctane. Isooctane is made from butane in Edm.

As far as I know all the 94 in Alberta has ethanol in it.

I was just looking on line and Petro Canada now offers the Chevron 94, and it is 10% ethanol. Shell Premium is the only 91 octane that has 0% ethanol, from what I read, everyone else has ethanol.
