so here's my predicament. i have a 1999 summit x and i just put a bran new engne into it. the thing runs like a top(when it does'nt cut in and out). when i drive the thing it cuts out. and it tends to cut out when i give it gas. it cuts out and idles down and then runs fine again. very odd to me. it really likes to do it when i first fire it up outside. once it's warm doesnt seem to be so bad.

any thoughts? on what it might be would be much apprectiated.
i know it has to do with electrical but im not shure where to start

Thanks
Tal

Without seeing it or testing some things I would say to start at the wiring harness and check all connections and the routing, it sounds like as the motor is torqued it may be seperating some wiring or giving it a bad ground ?

i would put money on its the dpm system. wont let you ride hard till warm. mine does the same thing if i am to eager at the start. i believe its a sensor on your throttle cable. senses how far you pull and engine temp or some damn thing. there is a group of three wires that is stuck to your cable where it splits to three cables and that is hooked into main harness. when engine is cold and you squezzze to hard it shuts it down to prevent cold seizing. only idea i had for the wires hooked there.

Mines a 99 670x and has DPM..... SAME THING... first 5 mins or so it likes to bog out, have to let up on the throttle until it wakes back up...kind of a pain in the azz but it only does it until the sled warms up. Brother inlaw figures it's a froze carb thing. I've learned to live with it and just spend my first 5 mins or so warming it up....

99 was the first year for dpm i think. but does anyone know for sure what the group of wires that is stuck to your cable are for? says cold start assist or something like that in the manual.

ya i had thought it might be something to do with my DPM or warming up. i put new lines on my dpm system and i was told they we're too thin to withstand the vaccume. i did'nt think that that would affect the running condition but maybe. yesterday it would'nt even run it was so dang cold 30 below. it would fre once on each pull. so now i cant even get i running. im goona look for the throttle sensor check my groungs and change those lines.
thnks 4 the tips

funny thing i thought since it warms up and then is fine that i would be ok but i went ripping down a feild 3/4 throttle and it completely cut out on me. im guessing my vaccume lines created enough vaccume to stop flow of fuel in carb??

I just had to get a new key made for my 670x, the magnetism on the old one wore out and was causing the sled to cut in and out randomly.

Common issues with the 98/99's. Make sure you are using solid top plugs gapped correctly and put new carb boots on it. I used to have to do this a couple times a year.
