I am not sure if there is a minimum altitude you can only run a summit at maybe that is my whole problem. If there is no dealer has every told me this. I am going to check into this though.

They all break. Doo 800s just have a short engine life. Not very offer a cat gets a short block at 2000 km. 2-4000 is where lots of doos get short blocks

Unless you melted it down(which is not the case here by what i'm reading) altitude isnt your problem, I mean you would know whats going on by looking at your plugs right??

BTW dont feel so bad. buddy of mine with a summit 1000, wouldnt sell it to me for fear of it blowing up a 3rd time, well last sunday we made it 2 miles from my house before it grenaded, I dont know whats wrong with it yet, haven't looked. This shortblock made it 400 miles so hes not a happy camper either.

Well my 2010 summit xp went down today. I was out for a ride with some friends crossing a field then all of a sudden I lost a piston. This sled only has 1400 miles on it. I think it may be time for a brand change. I have owned three 800 summits from doo and all have did the famous 2000 mile burn down. I run only 91 fuel and brp oil. I am so sick of this. At least this sled still has warrenty.

Ditch the BRP oil:d

My question is why are so many of these 800's going down? poor quality pistons? Doo obviously has good machines but is it unreasonable to expect more than 1500-2000 miles out of a motor? At least his is still under warranty, but how many other people out there have had failures of this exact nature and have been just off warranty? I can put my hand up and say that I was one of those and it gives you a pretty chitty taste in your mouth.

Same old....we went through 3 doo engines this way! On the h.o. and on the R. If your a hard rider the ring pin pops and/or ring breaks and scours the cyclinder. 2600kms on ALL of the engines! We went to the dual ring piston kit from mcb performance. Got 1400kms so far this season and still running sick!:d:d:beer::beer:

Get a 'Cat. They unveil the 2012's tomorrow, supposed big drop in weight on some models. Better to be riding 20 extra pounds than wrenching. Don't worry there's lots of 'doo head suckers out there to buy your old one, right Maxwell?:d

Doo is asking too much of the motor design they have IMO.

Watched another 2009 go down this weekend as well. Seems like there are more broken than running these days.

To funny!! when the Polaris 800 goes down it's a piece of Sh!t, when the Doo 800 goes down it's rider error. You Doo riders must be doing something wrong, sorry for your mis-fourtune.

Fuel is shell 91. I think Gold
I do put a liitle oil in the gas every time

Yeah as for the snow dust i have extreme air vents. It does have that stupid maxi pad air fillter but i checked It and it seems like it has a good seal. I have pulled it out when we have been ridding in the powder and there is never any snow dust in the air intake housing/ tubes what ever you want to call them.

shell AND husky premium has ethanol, but it doesn't hurt to have a tank of ethanol every now and then as long as you run a tank of none ethanol premium after. too lazy to read the whole thread so i dunno what's been said, just figured this should be mentioned.

5500 km thats like 10 years of riding for me. I hope it is just a simple little hicup and all will be fixed. i really like the way the sled feels and the ride. It just starts to get to a guy when its the third sled that this has happend to of mine.
