I'm comparing these to a nytro. Which I can side hill. The 230 lbs helps. Pretty sure I'm gonna hop on any 2 stroke and have a blast.

I have a narrow stance 2010 Everest (the stock a-arms, shocks, etc are included) and a 2012SP that are both for sale and very reasonably priced.


I know Doug but I have trouble spending coin for not factory new.

I went from a summit with all the bracing i could buy but i still broke the sag brackets and bent the hell out of the running boards among other things on the xp (4500km). 1200 km on my freeride so far and everything is straight and no broken brackets/modules. Imo if you truly ride HARD, on the trail, on the hill, and back down again, get the freeride. If you don't, then don't waste your money. Also i feel so much less fatigued on the freeride after a hard day, but i think thats because its a 2012, and the summit was a 09.

SP, Everest, Skummit, X, XM, XX, XP, Freeride, They are all the same = HEAVY they don't even hold a balance point on flat ground. I had the liberty of jumping on one of those XM's at the demo tour last year in Eagles and it was actually hilarious that I could stand effortlessly on one ski and hold it their for as long as I wanted on my PRO but could not hold a balance point for longer then 5 seconds on the new XM - great engine I will give them that but why would you want to muscle around something and fight it all day is beyond me? I also tried out one of them freerides last year and returned it after i found out it does not side hill very good at all. Again great power and can climb but no fun to ride. why so many different models that are all the same? Pretty confusing if you ask me...

those expensive shocks do ease the pain. but also increase sidehill input effort.

That's the way I feel. Because you pay more for the freeride and you will end up spending more to turn it back to a summit by the sounds of it.

Cat engines are crap! Was looking at buying a cat and yami dealership in Vernon. Ended up not buying it purely for the reason that every second cat they sold came back blown up. Dont ever buy a cat!

yes @ 230lbs you could handle the freeride no problem. i may suggest the non race version of the freeride which doesnt have the extremely wide stance. its more manageable. cant remember the stance exactly. the only issue is the max length is a 154. not sure if thats a problem for you or not but it certainly is for me lol

There are lots of guys riding Freerides who will never use the sled to its potential, that being said, there are lots of other sleds never being used to their potential.

Freeride is heavier due to the added bracing as well. Not interested in 50 foot drops? Stick with a Summit.

A Summit X is a spring order sled. You can only get them in season if the dealer had extra orders that never were filled. They do have a better shock, different graphics, have had better gauges and sometimes some other small items like a lower windshield and bar set up but in recent years the shocks have been the biggest difference in terms of upgrade costs. There has been a track option on the X as well that has been cheaper to buy upfront than upgrade later on, but if going to a 3" or longer than a 163 don't waste money on something you are taking off the sled.

There used to the the X and Everest. The Everest is now the SP. Some people will argue that an X will have a higher resale. Maybe in the first 2-3 years but after that all sleds tend to depreciate at the same rate regardless of model and options.

Wow!!!! your posts regarding the Doo's could'nt be stated any better. Hopefully this makes sense to him and yup why buy it to take it apart

To be honest, it really depends on who you ride with. With many of the people i rode with last year, I wished i had the 163. If you havent ridden the S-36 then the freeride 154 at 38" isnt going to make much of a difference. Dont get me wrong, i love my freeride (2012) and I'm really going to miss it. But at the same time, with most of the people I ride with, I need a 163. Also I have a Freeride for sale in Edmonton, if you want to look at it let me know :) its in great shape and if you want to bomb up the trail at light speed and leave the summits behind, this is the sled to do it on. And the suspension, I am going to greatly miss the suspension!
