Your post i found a little confusing, though it doesn't take much at times but it wasn't what i understood.
Either way now understanding the situation a little better. Customers are charged from 11:00am to 11:00am the next day. You stay one night or two it doesn't matter. In your case you tookup a room at 6:30am, 4.5hrs before check out/check in. Thus buying the previous day. Then took the room for the next day till 11:00am check out/check in, no matter if you choose to leave it early as check out is still 11:00am. So yes you should be charged for 2 day's fallowing hotel/motel rules.
Was it good service IMO, no it wasn't but its hard to complain if the clerk is just doing their job.

Are you serious? So the time in question being charged for is 630am-11am. The room obviously wasnt rented and he was just putting his bags in there. Do you work in government?

It might be too late, but seems like checking in at a hotel always involves a piece of paper that says your name, room rate, check in date, check out date. If that paper said 1 night, you would have a gooder leg to stand on.

Not sure what hotels you are staying in but every hotel I have checked in in the last 5 plus years had all been computerized, no manual paper copies.

The op should of been charged for one night. Not a warm and fuzzy feeling since we are staying there starting the 27th. Will I be charged a extra night for a late check in?? Lol

Who ever wood'a thunk-it that the "Days Inn" thread would become the new "4 place VS Sled Deck" Gong Show thread...

All Baraaaaaaap Obama has to add for the moment is: Baraaaaaap, Michelle Obama & the First Dog were staying at the Days Inn for a snowshoe/Revy getaway one weekend, and Sledders made it gnarly... Place was a mess of cans and stank...
Guys rolling in at 1-4 am hammmmmmered making all kinds of noise... Never seen guys leave so late to go sl3dding! I guess a sausage fest piss up with a bunch of dudes is more important than hitting the hill early and getting the freshy lines. Too each
their own, but a guy think he could get pissed up at home... Early bird gets the POW ans untouched buds. But guess not the 'Berta way.

What I'm reading in this thread is that there are BC residents who are quite upset with "Bertans" and their lot in life they probably think is caused by "Bertans". Such ridiculous hate. Get real people!!

I've stayed 100's of hotels all over the world and there are two things that are consistent everywhere.

1 checkout time is usually between 10 and 12. 9 times out of 10 unless you have a special arrangement if you check in before checkout you will be charged for the previous night.

2 many hotels do have in early check-in, late checkout policy that costs a little more but you won't have to pay a full second day rate. You just have to ask for it. If they are at capacity though, you may not get it.

The hotel was definitely in the right to charge. That was normal practice in my experience.

Check out time at most ALL motel/hotels 11:00am, you should of checked out at 6:30am when you left to go sledding. So what's your beef, inform your self and don't take it for granted.
Day's inn is in the right to charge you, they could rented it out. Sled excuse is BS for their business, most everyone know the rules.

X2, that is what i said. Some people just don't know or don't take the time to know the rules. The Day's is completely in the right. Don't expect to play and not pay when it come's to motels.
Like LBZ said, its this way in the motel industry through out and i know he travel's a lot.

So a guy checks in early to a room that is empty and reserved for him for that day anyways is charged twice? So who would the hotel be saving that room for until 11 am? Are there prostitutes in Revy that rent by the hour? Is that the revenue that they are missing out on? We usually come in the morning of our first day reservation and arrive around 10 am. I guess I will have to make a special arrangement before checking in or I guess we sit in our truck in the parking lot until 11 am before we walk in the door? The days of dressing in your room before hitting the hill your first day are over I guess?

well that depends....did they book the room ahead of time and request a 6:30 am check in?

I read over lorne1176 post's and he does not clarify this but I think it's an important element of this issue. If they just showed up in town early and asked to put their belongings in an already empty room that wasn't sold from the night before, then no they should not be charged for the extra day. There was no extra cleaning needed as the room was empty from the previous night.
However, if lorne1176 requested in their booking of an early check-in then that meant the hotel was unable to sell the room and needed to keep that room empty the night before so lorne1176's group could have early access.....which should result in the extra charge.

perhaps lorne1176 can clarify this?

Unless they did actually book the room the night before for the early morning check in , or a payment arrangement was discussed before they put their things in the empty room, that hotel is ripping them off and you guys defending that kind of charge, need to give your head a shake.

in case you guys didn't notice the ski hill is in town and granola crunchers spend a **** ton of money. good bad or otherwise hotels will get as much out of every penny they can. I think the Days INN and the sledders have had there day. I stayed there lots but not anymore. I think the service is biased to sledders, and more focused on a set of down hill skis that dont take up space.
