We upgraded to a newer model and they told us this new one was tower specific also. Haven't tried taking it away from home yet.
I take my smart hub from Alberta and use it in BC with no issues! Why do you think it is tower specific?

mine is for sure. tried taking it with me on standby in Cadotte this summer and got a message on my screen when I hooked it up that said I was out of my tower's service area.

FYI, Telus is doubling their data on the smart hub for the same price. I pay $75/ month for 250G. Just up it to 500G for $75/month. Surprisingly, they didn’t automatically change mine to the better offer automatically. I had to call and ask. Weird!!
Just thought I’d let the guys know who were paying $110/ month for 500G in case they don’t automatically drop your bill.

We got a terabyte for 105 month not too long ago

Kid got a Xbox and we kept going over the 250, called to switch to 500 and figured for 30 bucks, double was better, cause for 4 months we paid more from going over

I have the Telus Hub now, its $60 for 250 gigs, and works great. You can move them around to different sites but you have to go in and reset them when arriving at the new location, they will say out of the service area otherwise. They are very easy to swith over and I am very pleased with it, You can watch netflix with no issues, and never had a higher invoice yet.

In them hills.
Just called Telus to complain that we were burning through our 500 gig plan.

They gave us 1TB for the same price.

After many crappy years with internet speed, dialup modem, cell modem, wireless service, Telus installed fiber internet in Pemberton. I live out in the sticks and they had guys pull 1200ft of fiber from the road to my house. My rate went down to 60 bucks a month for unlimited at 150MBPS. Pretty happy now.

Just an FYI for those on Xplornet. They have upgraded their plans LTE speed and removed the data caps. I phoned them yesterday to ask them to upgrade me to their new plan and they did it no problem (other than sitting on hold for 20 mins). Old plan - 10MB LTE with a 500G cap for $110/month. New plain 25MB LTE with unlimited data for $100/month.

This must be area specific. I've talked to them since august and upped my plan to 400Gb for $99. Many complain about xplornet but I've been happy with them here, the old house was a nightmare.....location location location… but I'm gonna call about unlimited, because last time I talked to them that was not an option.

I have chimed in on the subject of rural internet on here before, my personal experience with Xplornet was the worst of any product or customer service I’ve ever had, dealt with it for years, at the time I was only able to have internet in the country thru Xplornet.., as soon as the option came up with a new outfit called CCI wireless, I jumped on that train and never looked back and have zero issues, right up until I moved. I’m sure there is a few new options that have shown up over the last few years but I’d say check out CCI and stay as far away from Xplornet as possible, this is my opinion and based on on my real life personal experiences.

Trouble with CCI and similar providers is that they require line of sight to the towers. If you are in a valley or bush as is my case, you are SOL.

Wanted to try telus smart hub but not available where I live, but not 5 houses down in the subdivision it says it is, telus confirmed I can't get it. Current internet threw coaxial is garbage, they've been out numerous times with little change. Got it from 1 to 2 mbps, but it cuts out for bits here and there. Don't really notice it that badly on the web or netflix, but really badly when I tried to play a online game.

Yes 100%, I was able to have line of sight to the local tower CCI used in my area, was happy with it.
