I agree HV. Unfortunately guys talk and when one gets more than another then you have pizzed off guys and they mope around and go anti establishment. The whole thing is sticky business. Glad I don't have to worry about it any more.

Ya, that's one of the most unproductive dinosaur styles of management there is. Abandoned by most companies years ago.

A bonus is just that, a bonus. I've been fortunate to work for a company that gives them out to the foremen and up.
I don't work there because of it, but I thank my boss and the owner every time.

I don't work for my company for a possible bonus, i don't expect any bonus. I truly enjoy working for my company, great atmosphere, boss and other employees, etc. As for being great full for having a job, i work hard and earn my continued employment.

That being said, a bonus is there to show the employee's that he/she has gone above and beyond whats asked or maybe stepped up that year.
I believe lots of techs deserve a little extra and of course, many don't.

Anyway just my opinion.

This year I gave my guys: 2 got $750 GC for the tool truck and the other got $250 as he's only been with me for 9 months. Last year it was pretty close to the same. They also all got a wage increase a couple of months ago. I've NEVER been thanked. :)

Sad to hear, people expect it, for you it is a thanks for making the year a success, for them it's a whats in it for me, I been there in both sides of the equation, i never expected or looked forward to a bonus, always gave a thank you , most just bitched.

I am happier i have gotten rid of all the crews, way less problems way less stress, way less idiots to deal with

I have read this comment many times "grateful or lucky to have a job", and don't really understand it. Do you not feel that the company you work for is fortunate to have you working for them? Do you not feel you add value to the company you work for? I do not expect a bonus, and the company I work for now does not give cash bonuses to anyone, but in the past working with other companies, I have received an XMAS bonus, and was appreciative for it.

IMO XMAS bonuses are the way a company says "thank you for your work, we appreciate it". Some companies feel it is important to recognize their employees with a bonus, some do not. That said, I have never considered working for a company whether they have a bonus or not, nor does it influence my work attitude or ethic, but I believe it does help morale and increases staff retention.

Staff retention, good morale and work ethic will be returned to a company 10X over, what even a small bonus would cost, not counting the thousands saved by having to constantly train new employees, but I guess each company will decide what is best for them.

I agree even though I don't expect a bonus the workers make the company money. Without the employees the company is nothing you look after good employees they are happy and will stay and make the company money so all are happy.
