What a pain in the butt experience to try and upgrade phones. Im on a very old share plan that, has a very cheap monthly bill for the wife and I.

To upgrade my phone my bill with the new plan was going to be 175 bucks to get close to the same plan as I currently have. Only difference is id be getting .5g of extra data.

The loyality dept didnt do much to help either. I could of went to telus and got a tad cheaper plan per month as a new customer but that would of changed after the contract expired.

Doing the math it was cheaper for me to buy a iphone 7 outright, than get a free phone and pay the extra in the bill. The extra cost of the plan over two years was the cost of the phone.

Anyone else have similar experiences

I always buy my phones outright, I prefer not to be in binding contracts.
On the other side, you never get a deal unless you ask! Through some begging and bartering, I keep getting pretty awesome plans from Telus for less. Most providers would rather make almost no profit, than lose you to another provider. This is easier when you bring your own phone into the plan.

Just buy your phone outright and research one plus 3, 3t or the new 5 that came out last week. Wicked phones better than iPhones in my opinion and my wife and two girls each plan with bring your own devices is $40 through Telus unlimited everything and then we pay for out data on top. Several people I know have bought the one plus phones and came off iPhones and say they are so much better. Had mine a year and love it!! Will never sign a contract ever again! Oneplus also has dual SIM cards. Just google them as there is lots of info on them.

Coverage map for BC has the same coverage as the other guys.. Covering all major areas and roads.. I may switch if virgin does not give me a better deal on new phone.. Since the contract times went down the prices of phones and plans went up quite a bit..

Went with bell couple of months ago. Cut our phone bill in half over Telus. We go to a lake in northern sask and were concern about service. The service is actually better now.

In hindsight I would have kept my original Sasktel cell plan from when I was in college 5 years ago and continually paid for phones outright as it was an unlimited data and national calling for $65.
Since then I've just been doing the two year contracts with the cheaper phone contract prices and am now with Telus since the New Year.

Side question with the contracts for anyone that knows. You are allowed to change plan options throughout the contract as long as you continue to have voice/data on the plan, correct? (ie. you want to change the amount of data you pay for)

I believe so but if you financed a phone through them then your bill needs to be a certain amount of $ per month.

Just finished upgrading phones for both the wife and I. Ended up getting something I was pretty happy with but what a frustrating experience!

Just a heads up for anyone with a GST number, ask at a bell store about their small business pricing. WAY better.

So for the ones that switched from Apple to Samsung? Wasn’t it a extra expense to buy apps again?
The new s9 plus looks interesting but I would be switching from the Apple 6plus .
Been with Apple for ever but thinking about a change.

I had an iPhone 4 which was a great phone and switched to a couple of Sony’s as they were water resistant and they were ok. Then got an S7 Samsung. Hated it. Worst autocorrect and predictive text I’ve ever seen. Back with an iPhone 8 now and much happier.

No need to pay for apps unless you have some that you had to buy before. I don’t have any apps that I’ve had to pay for however on either android or apple.

Another thing.....even if you just signed a new contract, you can still transfer into the small business plans as long as it is in the same tier. I think it was about a 40 dollar a month savings for us.

What apps do you pay for?

More than $100?

Switch to Android don't look back.
