Cataract Creek Snow Vehicle riding area official section 2017/18

We always encourage you wear and use safety gear when you ride with the club. However, Cataract Creek trails are nice rolling trails through the Foothils and do not require you to wear avy gear. Most of the riders out that day will not be wearing transceivers or air bags. I too am originally a flatlander and you will enjoy these trails for a change of scenery!!!

Hey Cam where would a guy turn off HWY 2 coming from Edmonton to get to Cataract staging area for the rally? Haven't turned the track yet this year so we are coming for the rally. TIA for any info.

The easiest way would be to take Hwy 2 south to the first exit into High River (on Google it says 498 Ave E) this will become highway 543.
Take this highway west until you get to highway 22, then turn south towards Longview.
You’ll go west of Longview on Hwy 541 until you get to the 940 Forestry Trunk Road (you can’t miss this as the highway is closed through Kananaskis now - you’ll hit the gate if you go past the turn!!)
Turn south on the 940 and come down the road approximately 12 kms and you’ll see us!!
We’ll have people out assisting with parking and can direct you more at that time.
First riders out by 9am. I’ll recommend being there by 815am (or earlier) to get unloaded, registered, and make the most of your day since you’ll be coming from Edmonton.
If you’re an ASA member with a club up there, please bring your ASA membership card to show at registration. Also sleds need to be plated and insured as officers will be out and they do check primary for this.

Thanks for all the info Cam. That's a big help. If any out of town riders looking for a place to stay there are hotels in Longview, Black Diamond, Turner Valley. Google it and book your room. Tell them your here to snowmobile and going to rally. This help these business realize that snowmobiling is a tourist industry for their future.

The groomer did a very good job on the trails and even the trails it wasn't on that were dragged with the sled were in great shape. Like Sledderglen says ride the whole trail not just the center, they'll stay in much better shape for much longer. I want to thank the two riders from Strathmore that helped my buddy and I with bailing wire when his lower a-arm broke, between the bailing wire and duct tape we pieced it together well enough to ride all the way back to the Cataract staging area.

The bolt broke from just being old and half of it wiggled out of the back of the a arm behind the spindle, the front arm of the a arm itself then broke at the cross member that joins the two arms. I was actually riding it and it happened in slow motion going around a corner, the skis just did the splits. It was about 15k from Cataract, but by shoving the bolt into the back of the a arm and into the spindle then wiring and duct taping the whole thing together we made it all the way back. Last time I rode with him I had to pull it out of Chapple with a broken steering column. It's a well ridden sled.

So feeling very grateful today and have to send a shout out to all guys who have committed so much time, energy, and resources to getting this area back on track after a long departure from support and then the 2013 floods. Without this outstanding effort I would not be able to enjoy this area and sport with my young kids. Its safe, majestic, fun, ..... great for the whole family. So to all those who have contributed to this revitalization - THANKS!!!

Sledderglen, the government website says snowmobile use only at Cataract. Is it official that snowbikes are legal now in this area and/or have been reclassified?
