I like Warn and Ramsey winches personally, I think you get what you pay for and chinese junk should stay in china.

Here's what Happy Happy has to say about it on a online review:

Broken before installation

The metal frame on this winch is that really soft WHITE METAL with a nice grey paint job over top of it. When installing the main 4 bolts of this winch the first two broken the winch frame. I gave up right away, skipped the last two bolts & returned this as scrap to CT. Do NOT waste your time with this one!!!

I've pulled with my Canadian Tire 4K rear winch probably 75 times while buried in mud and snow at -20°C and it hasn't given me a lick of trouble. It's actual been much better than the factory Warn front winch that I use far less. Buy it and enjoy it. I had the 3500 prior and I broke it in half on a submersed rock and it cost me almost nothing. (Less than a new belt).

so u have had good luck with it? is it the wide spool winch? for the money and a 1 yr over the counter exchange I may give it a try.

I definitely need the 4000lb as my commander Max is easily 2000lb when you take into account the add ons and gear. I thought the CT one might be an alright option seeing as its regular price is $300 which is in the same ball park as most the competition. It's not that I only want to spend $120 I just thought it might be a great deal to take advantage of. Numerous bad reviews weigh more heavily than a couple good ones though as I don't really want something I have to hope will be durable and work when I need it.

Yup got a snatch block this year when I changed to synthetic line on my factory winch. Haven't had to use it yet but am going to make sure I know wtf I'm doing with it before I actually need it. Most reviews on the CT site for the 4000lb winch are positive. Not so much for the 3000lb. The two bad reviews were the one lilduke posted and another who had it fail the first time used.

Most of the good reviewers were only using them for a snow plow setup.

Sure the price is right, but it's just going to end up in a landfill and you're putting an American out of a job and supporting slave labour...lol

Yeah definitely not using on a plow and don't want to risk it ripping apart on a hard pull. The bad reviews say more than the positives in this case.

no it is a narrow spool which was part of the attraction for me as it was more poundage and would fit in the factory location so i could keep the pull pt low rather than having to go with an emp style bumper

ok thanks, good info, I need a wide spool for the mounting setup I have. but it would fit to a mount on the rear of the ranger. and I do see it is a 4000lb winch, thanks to one of the suds buds, guess I did not get that part of the flyer! lol.

Take it off , run to town , put new one on & repeat .... And have everyone else Winch me out ...

grow up and act your age! you have no experience with this winch thus u have no valid opinion on how it works. you should go get your meds checked at your earliest convenience, your hormone therapy may be wearing off!

so why did you buy a Runva instead of the tried and tested warn winch?

I am entitled to my opinion wether you like it or not ...
Crappy tire is not know for quality products though , you do realize..?
If you bother actually to read my post , I said warn are over priced , and I don't have a runva ( though I like them) ....

In simple terms , I enjoy riding rather than fixing broke chit on the trail ( and have every one waiting/ helpings)just to save 30
$ or so .....so anything I can do to mitigate the chances of breakdowns prior to, I do. I respect others people's time as well. If you figure it's worth wrecking ride after ride , to save a few $$$ , good for you... Sorry but most of us value our recreational time at more than that!
It does not matter If it is winches / rads /axles or whatever ..., buy good & proven stuff & maintain it... It really is that simple !
One day you will come to realize, that time is more valuable than money ... Especially considering the age you are .....

Thats why its best to do the testing and maintenance BEFORE the ride at home , so you don't have to drive back from camp 3 times ....!!

I have to say I would spend a few more $ and get a tried and proven winch. I would not put a unproven winch on my quad.

So i have some limited experience with the 4000lb winches that are on sale at crappy tire. last month as i was loading up for our week long quad trip and the winch on my rzr chit the bed pulling up the ramp in the box of the truck being thursday night and already strapped for cash i ran down to c-tire and picked one up. worked great the whole trip. I would say if your in a bind and need one or to broke to get a good one it will get you by for a bit. this one will come out when i get a chance and i will at least dismantle it and see what its made of, if it looks ok inside i will grease it, seal it and put it back in.

Also a few years back while cruising though princess auto i came across some winches on sale and grabbed one just to have around the house, got it home and opened the box and to my surprise it was identical to the polaris one in my 850 just no stickers. so i tore it down and it was all steal construction and looked to be well made for 150 bucks. well when the winch in my 850 gave up that one went in and has been in there for over 3 years with no issues.

sometimes you get lucky sometimes you don't, every polaris winch i have had failed was due to water ingestion and the magnets delaminating from the case. and every warn winch i have had, had the chitty plastic planetaries explode. so sometimes the cheap stuff lasts just as long

The outer housing has a gear inside it that the 3 planetary gears mesh with....it's plastic.

Actually the last rt25 warn i had fail every dam gear inside that winch was plastic. But I heard they are now metal but i haven't bought another one since.

Warn is really pricey, and I've had to replace 3 solenoids all on different machines I've owned,all barley used and good shape the solenoids just quit....I always replace them with China knock offs that work better anyway 1/4 of the price with one year warranty.

Just serviced my 4500lb warn and all steel gears.
Had some moisture and some corrosion on planetary end but all still good.
