Unions are the bastard child of management. If they treated people the way they should be treated they'd put unions out of business. Looks like unions are gonna be around for awhile.

You may have had a point if you said 70 years ago. They've long since outlived their usefulness and are headed the way of the dinosaur.

I'm curious though. With the labour market the way it is in Western Canada, why would any employee need to be protected from management? Wouldn't this indicate a performance issue?

Unions arent about protection theyre about rights for employees.

It's also nice to see Longhairfreak can carry on a conversation without resorting to Grade 4 name calling. The fixation with sucking male organs is a little strange though...

Unions are a joke. They make companies incredibly inefficient. At Lakeside(who want to strike again) the workers aren't allowed to change light bulbs. They have to call in a licensed electrician to do it.

Last time lakeside went on strike we were still trying to recover from BSE. We still were not making money on our cattle. So, they go on strike and there number of kills went waaaaaay down for the time being, so suddenly there was a huge supply and little demand. Price went down even more.

Part of the unions demands? Slow down the line so they didn't have to work hard. So the demand stayed lower than normal. I really wouldn't have cared if they wanted more vacation time or something like that but no they decide they need to fawk with other peoples lively hood.

The worst part of the whole situation is it's not the workers who wanted to strike. It was the manager of the union(a guy who has never worked a day in his life) Anyone who has been to Brooks knows lakeside is run by primarily foreigners. The union takes these people who barely know English and force them to sign contracts they don't understand. These people need their paychecks to live. lots of them live month to month and send the rest home to their families. Now imagine someone telling you that you aren't allowed to work anymore and that the $15 an hour you were making is going to be about $3 an hour because some guy wants more union dues

I find it really amusing how so many think a union is anything other than your friends, family and neighbours looking out for one another against greedy business people. So what you are saying is...your friends, family and neighbours are going the way of the dinosaur?

LMAO! Listen to yourselves.

Everyone already knows you have the intellect of an infant. You don't have to prove it any more.

Quit yer childish whining and grow a pair. You and your family of cry babies are making the rest of us proud union members ill!

Without signing the contract they are not allowed to work. If they can't work they don't have anywhere to live or any income once they are in Canada with no family or friends.

Nice attitude. What union do you blindly throw your dues at to employ some useless dud that claims to be representing your best interests?

Your a farmer aren't you?

Maybe I'll pass on your sentiments to my Longshoreman brothers in Vancouver. We'll see how quick your wheat gets to market.

Don't know what planet you're from but never in my life have I or anyone I know ever had to sign any contracts to work in a union shop. What union is this your referring too exactly?

If you say CLAC be prepared for laughter of the large kind!

So what is it called that you are doing here with this comment, showing us a prime example of adult behaviour?

Obviously never owned a business and dealt with little chit head employees who think they can get away with anything. Unions make it nearly impossible to fire people. I guess it's great for lazy fawks who don't like work. I'd quit before I join a union.
