I think the 3" track is a great option, and it's probably going to help push every brand forward but I don't think it suddenly makes doo miles ahead of the other brands. I find that handling is everything in a sled and I find doos riding style awkward for me. All I can say is I won't be trading in my pro anytime soon.

I found it awkward too with that wide tunnel. Legs are too wide spread compared to tapered tunnel designs of other models. And if you stand with you feet up near the front of the boards, it is VERY noticeable on the awkwardness of how you are forced to stand. I guess a guy can get used to it. The clutch and chaincase are taking up too much space from the front running board area IMO.

I think the handling will change but most will adjust to it. The bigger problem with the 3" is the huge penalty in track speed. If you live in the trees and just tractor around then by all means it will be the ticket. Otherwise you will enjoy an advantage only on those windshield deep days. The rest of the winter the 2.5" will take you higher and faster. A turbo will help to overcome the track speed penalty, but a stocker will struggle to turn this thing fast enough to maintain momentum. A number of guys in our group have tried the 3" for two years now. We've all gone back to 2.5"

but have you tried it on a 20lb lighter sled, with a 7lb lighter track, with lighter gears, a 27mm extended chaincase, round 7 tooth gears not hex 7 tooth gears? with a proper clutch calibration? this machine will and does work better than a 3" sled with 7 tooth avid gears. i know because i also have tried many 3" tracks on stock machines and they are MEH i will agree with that. and myself i havent had too many days that my track wasnt biting into at least a foot or more of fresh. the only time this track will be a negative is in the late spring. in fresh deep snow this sled makes more ground speed with slightly less track speed. which is all that matters.

I hope you're right Maxwell. I've just seen too many 3" stockers on a hill look like a John Deere slow race at the county fair in July. Track speed is critical. The turbo Yammy guys prove that track speed alone can overcome a fairly big weight penalty when it comes to getting over a hill. We'll all know soon enough if this is a home run or not.

So the new xm t3 174 is the sled to beat. Stock to stock the other big 3 aren't even in the same race. Also a 4 yr warranty. I'm not sure that with 10 grand in aftermarket goodies you could make the competitors sleds comparable. At minimum cat. Polaris and yamy will need a 174" track but with only 15" wide they still will lack a foot print. I can't wait for the future to see what happens next to sleds.

If they are smart.... This but a 174 as well...

They did drop the 166 back in the day.




I hope this motor does put out at least 160 hp.

The x3 is a turd compared to this doo track. It's lighter, has better paddles for marginal snow conditions. And has a lot less rolling resistance with the small long ports. Oh! And the paddles are damn near 16" wide. Not 14!!
