Buy back the sled or let them take it!

OK so here's a question....in a case like this you buy it back...throw a new tunnel on it or sell it and someone else puts it back together....QUESTION: So now that the sled was wrote off but repaired....can one still use the original serial number and get it re-registered? Curious as the serial number has been listed as salvage so what would the steps be to ge able to run the unit if repaired? Not to butt in on your thread.....You could always do like others are saying....buy it....strip it out and part it out....my question was for those that would be interested in buying it and fixing it back up...or a scenario like that...?

shouldn't have any problems, we did it with our outlander 650 after it was wrote off, no questions asked.

have they said what the buy back is going to be. They usually wan't 50% of what it is worth because that is what a salvage guy is going to pay for it!! Just curious but if you can get it for 2 G then I would buy it as well and part it out or put it back together at a later date with some new CF parts

The guy said its usually 20%-25% for buy back and would let me know wednesday the forsure buyback price.

$2000 to buy, $1800 for new chassis, $1000 for new front end, etc etc. Your time to repair it is not worth anything, probably not going to get a lot of people wanting to buy a rebuilt write off, so best to sell it as is, where is......

People say to part out but what happens is that only certain stuff goes first and fast, then like Longhorn says - you have piles of parts laying around for a year waiting for someone to come and buy them, when they do they will low ball you with a nothing offer, you wind up buying it back for $2000, selling $1800 worth of parts, storing the other stuff for 1-3 yrs, then chucking it out.

but the way i look at it...you can not find a running 800r for 1800$

compelte with pumps/electrical/etcetc. could throw in the exhaust system/computer and make it 2000$ for the complete engine assembely.

everything else is either gravy or it will make a good project in the future.

I'd buy it back and part it out! I had all my stock apex parts on kijiji and made 3800 bucks in 2 months! I was never going back to stock parts so why not. It's pretty amazing what people will buy! And what people wreck!:d

but that goes for anything in my world. ask anybody that knows me im always in for a project or a good deal for that matter. if he parts it out i will likely bid on parts too. dont own a doo but i would like to build one for the wife

used motor is barely worth $2000 with all the pieces - you can buy a short block for that much or a big bore kit for a little more and know that it wasn't rat bagged, not saying this particular motor was.

Any used motor should be gone through and checked, compression and runout at a bare minimum, leak down/pressure test as well, which means more time and $$$$. Doing this right now to a motor that I bought and was about to install - found several things wrong with the motor (bolts, seals, etc). If you do not have the patience, knowledge or the time then you gotta pay someone to do it. More $$$$. $2000 motor with $500 shop bill.

Yeah the other stuff like rear suspension is gravy but you gotta store it and deal with it too.

good advice here.. i was e-mailing back and forth with a guy on kijiji about a sled.. he was selling with blown motor.. i asked him if it can be fixed why not fix it. sleds sold as project come with a taillight gaurentee. so if its worth it to fix then fix it
my uncle trained me in auction sales when i was younger.. his line was always "its in the auction for a reason" bid like its worth nothing but the gas money to get it

I'm not sure we have ever dealt with each other..... I do take offense to that comment
I dont bid to insult but if i hurt someones feelers by being honest and realistic then thats the case. Also when i sell something i am up front and honest.

i will admit i ask honest questions so i have a good idea what to bid. So not to offend.
