If you actually WATCH the vid... he says "I bailed.... then the thing shuts off.... and it hit a tree"
I would say that Ya... he was wearing a teather. That news article should have been titled. "Man doesnt get insurance on his sled". The repairs were almost as much as the whole machine so he wont be fixing it??? Will it be a giant bird feeder now? its called full coverage! When my strap bent down all it did was make my RPM's hang a bit.... I honestly DO NOT think that there is ANY way that the mountain strap could be resposible for holding that thing wide open.... No matter which way you pull that strap... Forward or backward... with the bracket loose... the strap hits riser block before it would hold it open far enough to actually make it move....

First I have heard of this. I wonder if the new tapered bars on the 2012's are the reason or is this happening on older models as well?

My strap slid up to the throttle not down to block? either way its ghey but simple fix and common lil tweak on factory sled

could be,, maybe its tight at the bend then once a bit loose it comes up the bend,,, easy fix but did happen instant on both my rides,,, ugg I need to get out lol

I only use that strap when rolling really so I probably pull at it on a different angle then when using it to ride,, I ride on the grips not the strap

it is possible to flip that clamp around so the bolt is on the front side of the handlebars? Then it is happened it wouldn't pull on the throttle cable.

I went and looke at the mounting of my Mountain Bars compared to the one ones in the Skidoo, it looks like skidoo went real cheap on theirs. Funny that they are issuing a cautionary statement about the mounting of these bars. Hmmmm.

I did watch the video but you are correct, I missed that little detail! Thanks.....

and if the guy didn't doo anything (like he claims), then it was not tightened enough at the dealers. PDI.....

well I re tightened mine and it did the excat same thing in under 1 hour in the hills? thats not PDI? thats design flaw? I seriously cranked it,, it bent loose again in under 3 pulls at it? I will look at plastic as maxwell mentioned and remove but really why am I doing this?

thats not PDI is it? hey BRP missed a lil thing like this its fine just get me a proper mount, I wont deny my sled is riden hard but really the silly strap should hold up. and I should'nt have to fix it from the factory.

you are right. even with the washer removed like we did we tightened one snug and the bolt snapped. so i dont beleive its possible to get that thing tight enough even with the washer removed without breaking the bolts. i think a billet replacement would be a good recall for brp on this possible issue.


on previous model sleds ( zx and rev) the strap actually went through a welded rung in the bars. impossible for it to go anywhere.

People have complained about that floppy mountain bars for years. A BRP engineer told me once that that is the only bar the legal department would sign off on. Might come back to bite them now?

floppy strap is great and fine,, but it neads to mount securely.... thats the deal???

those cat hard bars are plain stupid........... so I see why legal denied them,, the riser pad hurts enough to the chest let alone that cat hard mountain bar lol that be brutal

ill have to have a look at my 2010 with the straight bars but its NEVER come loose and i reef on that thing. maybe diferent mounting or it could be the new bars.

This explains something weird I encountered last week. I was doing a pow turn in deep snow on a lake and fell off the side where the sled got stuck on its clutch side. When I grabbed the throttle side grip and the mountain bar to yank it up flat (did not touch the throttle), the sled revved. Yanked again and the sled revved again. I though it was some weird fuel thing since I for sure didn't touch the throttle but it may have been the mountain bar pulling on the throttle cable. My mountain bar is loose as well.

It's not the PDI, it came tight and Lucas and I went through the whole thing at Bow South before I loaded it up. Possibly if that plastic spacer was a bit smaller it would clamp down a bit tighter.

Maybe all you guys need to email the troubleshooter so she can go to BRP with this info and hopefully get this guy some satisfaction.

The bars look tapered on my summit x so if they slide up a little they would be loose

I have an 06 summit and the mountain strap clamps are mounted so the bolt is on the front side of the bar and no where close to the throttle cable. I think the strap should be rotated side for side to place the bolt to the front and also removing the plastic spacer. I have adjusted my srap several times and tightened with zero problems.
