Really could care less anymore, it's been way too long since it was north of the border, hopefully with the drop in cap this next season some of these U.S teams find themselves behind the eight ball and have to wheel out the high end players, which will make for a lot of the younger lower paid talent to show their skills. The compliance buyout option was such a great idea , just wish it allowed teams to do more then 2 of them. So many of these 8 million a year players signing huge contracts because they had a "good year" , just to see them stop producing because their passion is overcome with dollar bill signs . I wish all of them would play the way they did just before becoming draft eligible.. With heart.
Bring on football season, and go Al's!!

the only team in the play offs that will be hit by the cap is Chicago, Detroit will squeak by just under, boston is under the new cap, and believe it or not the pens have the lowest salary of the teams left in the play offs and are only 2 mil above edmontons team salary

Bob, I don't get this American stuff. It is a level playing field other than maybe the taxes for the owners and that I haven't got a clue about. I said it before, Canadian team management had better start doo-ing a better job of managing to keep guys like you happy. If what Plio says is true (and I don't doubt him) that Pittsburg is only 2 million above Edmonton, it sure as hell isn't that the opportunity hasn't been there for Edmonton. They have to manage the talent and the dollars better.

Edmonton is hardly 2 mil behind Pitts , they are the lowest payroll left in the playoffs, however that is only because they have zero bonuses to pay out this particular year, and keep in mind the cap drops this next season, I'm not entirely sure if this has been updated to include the compliance buyouts that have happened already, something tells me not but I'm not positive.
A team like the Habs just for an example have a high payroll , but they bought out Scott Gomezs contract which was a healthy 8.5 million a year, pretty tall order for a putz that only scored 4 goals the last 3 years.
And yes the Fernie the GMs in Canada have to do a lot better job to compete with their u.s counterparts, there are certain ways to wiggle in high end talent don't kid yourself, a great example was 2 years ago in NJ with Kovy, 11 years at 10 million a year, and they were already near their cap tolerance. So they found a way around the system and it's rules, and it worked for them.
Also keep in mind some parts in the states are going to be more attractive then say a place like Edmonton/ Calgary/ Winnipeg, they can leave the rink in their ferraris and shorts, instead of snow suits , and an escalade that had to be plugged in lol.

Take a look at that Capgeek link, according to it, the Oilers payroll is $13mil less than the Penguins and they (Penguins) are #2 behind Chicago of those teams left in the playoffs with the highest payrolls. They've got some decisions to make before next season, do they keep Dupois and Iginla? Maybe Dupois but I don't see them keeping Iginla unless he will take a whole less than he's making now. I see him returning to Calgary where he will eventually retire.

Iggs was hired as a rental at 2.3 million, they may hang on to him, but it's hard to say, they need to loose a big name to get them under the cap for next year, there will be some deals made this summer

OK, time to get back on track. A little more than 33 hours and we have playoff hockey once again! We'll be grilling burgers and drinking Sam Adams Boston lager and cheering on the B's! For those who are still watching, enjoy the games and may the better team win!:beer:

I'd be surprised if Iggy goes back to Calgary. He just sold his house a couple weeks back. If Pittsburgh doesn't keep him he will go where the money is. He was under paid in Calgary for years. Time to make that up.

Iggs isn't in it for the money anymore, he wants a ring to retire with, his numbers have really declined the last 3 years

He'd be a good fit in Edmonton. Local guy, good leader, and I think he would do good with some good young guys surrounding him. Or I could just want him here cause I think he's a good solid gritty player

He would fit, but Edmonton has never been known for picking up rental players, they have drafted well and have some good Things happening with OKC, so untill they are actual contenders they will develop their youth.
They really do need a goaltender to do that though, Dub isn't the answer

Looking forward to tonights game, hopefully the Bruins can win another one tonight and really tighten the screws on the Penguins. And I just have to say, Sidney Crosby should not be a capt on that team, he needs to GTFU and act like a man instead of whining and trying to pick a fight with a goalie. The Penguins aren't built to play tough bruising hockey, they need to stick to the finesse and speed game or they will lose this series in less than 6. Matt Cooke should be banned from the NHL, he obviously hasn't learned a damned thing from his previous suspensions.

Did anyone see what happened with Bergeron and Malkin? Bergeron is one of the most respected players in the NHL, don't know about Malkin but why would those 2 fight each other? I've never known nor heard of Bergeron being an agitator or instigator or a cheap shot artist.
