Blown Engine on 04 Summit 800

Hey All! So JUST got back from Edmonton and picked up my new engine. Having a glass of wine and figured I'd post some progress. Yay new engine day! Here's a couple pics after my engine was pulled completely and of the new engine and getting the stator off and the other stuff. I'm heading back to the shop tomorrow and going to start cleaning and putting it back together slowly but surely. Save most of it for when I have some supervision. Just to be sure haha :d

1.) Engine pulled! (coveralls...not the most flattering outfit :p)
2.) Mav...the man behind the clutch puller. Without him I woulda been there for hours trying to figure out how the eff to get the oil pump throttle cable off dur!

I heat sealed every part according to where it came off of and labeled the packages to make it easier for when I am putting it all back together. Great idea. Pretty excited to start back at it tomorrow.

Thanks to Dave Harper for hooking me up with a good deal on oil for the new motor which I got in Wetaskawin on the way up.

Thanks to Bill at Martin Motorsports for the good price on the engine and Jerry at Martin Motorsports for helping me with taking the flywheel and stator off and putting it on the new engine.

You guys are gems! :beer:

Wow, for not knowing to much, you sure kicked azz on that thing tonight, way to go !!!

what do the top of the pistons look like ? The cylinder walls ? Can you tell what let go ?

Again, sorry I couldn't be there to help like I said, work went completely sideways today......and I got your message at 8:00P....Guess I must of pocket dialed ya, I was still at work, sorry.

Oh it's all good! I did everything by myself just fine actually! I was surprised. I only needed help with the oil pump cable, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how the heck to get that off the oil pump. Thank goodness Mav was there to help me out. He stood back and just let me do all the work on my sled and only helped if I asked. Loved it. How else do I learn right?! And helped when I needed a bit of muscle! hehe

haha yeah I kind of figured it was a pocket dial. 3 hrs and I was done and at the pub for some pizza and wine! :D

Didn't bother tearing it apart, was kind of in a hurry to just get it done so I could get it to Edmonton for today. The piston on the mag side was scored up and where the reed goes on that side was super dirty. I couldn't even turn the clutch...umm...for lack of a better term, thingy that is on the side of the engine after you took it out. The guys that helped me determine what I needed to do think it's a crank bearing that let go. So no unfortuantely I didn't actually get to find out 100%. Sorry!

holy chit!!! thats awesome, i love how you packed and labled the bolts, i didnt do that, just threw them all in the tunnel bag, come to put then back in "hmmm, now where does this one go? i think it goes here" ....20minutes later...... "now where did i put this bolt"? .........trip to town...... engines all good to go...... "now i got all these extra bolts.... oh well i'll just cut a bit off these bolts and use them for my exhaust"

but now i still got some bolts left over.......:confused:

Making progress I see! keep us posted. Nice shop your working in and thats quite an idea there to put the parts in a sealed bag, most people just throw them in a pile then wonder where they go afterwords and have parts left over when the project is done. Now comes the fun part, digging into the motor to see exactaly what let go. Good luck!

No big deal Rowdy!, the main thing is that soon you will be tearing up the powder again, and SHOULD have many trouble free (engine) miles ahead of you...

Just be extra careful putting her back together and remember everyone comments on here and you will be fine.(I.E. no bubbles in the oil injection lines)

One last thing I always do on a rebuild is premix my frist tank of fuel (about 500ml in a full fuel tank)

Yeah I'm super nervous to eff something up putting it back together. I'm going to start tomorrow just working on cleaning it all up and maybe trying to start putting the basics back together. Nothing major for now. Way too nervous. I''m going to empty out the oil tank and clean it out and maybe pull my sled out with the forklift and pressure wash the engine bay. Just anything I can to get done to make it easy to get it back in when I have my supervisors around hehe.

Alright...bed time for me. Wine will help me sleep. Zzzzzz!

Just sooo p!ssed at the dealer that sold it to me. So much so I want to yell their name from the roof top...I think after all the issues I've had, he deserves it...

Willy from Chunk Motorsports in High River AB. The guy who refused to talk to me when I found out how I was getting screwed with how much it was costing me, all the issues I've had since day one on the sled, oil leak, starting problems and now the engine issue on a supposedly "new" engine.Grrrrrrr

I so wished my wife had told me about this thread earlier. I would have offered you some help with your troubles. Send me a PM and I may be able to help you with some other parts. I was one of the guides on Revy ladies ride and had so many laughs with the girls, tons of fun.

I have known your "Sled salesman" for years and this year he screwed me over. My own fault I "trusted" him. He's all talk and no action. A person just has to move on.

Oh and by the way I have a couple good looking sons who are "both" now not in relationships:eek:. Maybe you could get them interested in sledding.;) I can't. LOL

So I didn't get to the shop yesterday. Daylight savings screwed me up and I had too much to do at home. So I'm all set up this am to work on my sled late tonight. Stoked!

Below my guages I found these cracks in the metal. Does anyone know if you can weld that? Or are there too many wires around that area to weld it? Or am I better off just getting a new bracket...which seems like a pain to replace. lol

Thanks! A guy at our shop here just told me about the same thing, lol. I forgot the brake clean from my house too so I had to go there anyways. :d
