With aftermarket rims you can go 30's easy. On the G1 you have to watch headlight/tire clearance and tie rod/sidewall clearance. On the G2 you have to watch inner tire/rear trailing arm clearance.

It can depend on the tire manufacturer, my buddy has 28" Zillas, but in reality they only measure about 26-27" tall mounted.

Sorry boys. Let me give some more info. Mines a 2012 G2. I'd prefer to stay with stock wheels, but if I HAVE to change, I will.

Chances are pretty good you will need either spacers or rims. Unless you go with 9 inch tires.

28" Zillas is what I would run.
Mudbugs are great on smaller quads but don't have the tread depth.

28" outlaw 1s skinny side combo. A bit of plastic trimming. Still will run once and a while if everything is bottomed out and wheels are turned just right. another unit I ride with. 29.5" laws lots of his floor boards are trimmed off. Think it rubs about like mine.

Whatever it takes to get you out of "pouting" mode , I guess........
As for tire size , anything over a 28 will rub. With major trimming a 30 will still rub on every off camber & bump.....on a g2 bike.
