i am resodding my lawn this summer and am wondering which is the best way to lay the sod, the area is 45 feet by 27 feet on one side it runs along the driveway then curves out around the garage and turns into the walk to the front door, this is the 45 foot length, so do i run the sod the 45 foot way or the 27 foot way? which would be better? Thanks Shawn

it is all personal preference, the main thing is always keep the green side up and you will do fine :)

It doesn't really mater but I would run them the 45 foot way cause there usually
around four feet long. Stager them so the look like a brick wall, this is when your water the heck out of it later theres no rivers running. Like I say water like crazy and until the roots tie in to the other soil underneath, then keep watering all summer. Some people use a roller but I think watering is the key.

a have fresh top soil on area prior to laying sod, or ensure soil is loose help to allow the sod roots to attach to the soil below, and yes watering after LOTS and rolling helps to ensure the roots attach. if the sod is delivered i hope its fresh (cut with 24-48 hrs max), if you are picking up at sod farm, even better as I have seen sod sit on pallets for days before hitting the ground.

good luck as i never sod, only seed, its alot cheaper..........and I own a seed company:beer:

depends on how you want it to look
if you lay it out the long way you will be able to see more seems from the house

lay it the short way will look much better from the street and the house...
after laying it roll it and water it but not too much ... if you water it oo much the roots wont go to deep and wont be as tolerant to a lack of water (of course a sprinkler system makes this part easy )

after a couple of weeks hit it with another fertilizer and you will be green in no time

Whats the best way to lay sod .............. couple of things to remember

1. Make sure the sod is ready to be layed ......... try some compliments, tell it how green and lush it looks etc.

2. Try giving it a drink or two .......... it's always better when it's wet

3. Take your time ..... trying to lay it too fast is kinda cheaping the whole thing

4. Don't let it know this is your first time ............ be confident!!

5. Remember protection .... grass stains are hard to get out.

Good luck hope this helps :d:beer: feel free to take pics and post them up!!

It has to be summer!!!! Even laying 'sod' goes to hell in a hand basket!!

Actually, Monday is the first day! Yahoo, 'cause the day light will be getting shorter and we can start the count down.....

I agree, water water water.

Start farthest corner away from the pallet. Better to carry sod around when your fresh. Near the finish, you don't want to carry as far.

make sure you tuck in the ends. That is, roll under the last inch so it fits nice and tight.

the long way would be my choice, less trimming. And use a sod knife. Much better to trim with.

Stagger the seams. This limits sod from slipping around as you move along.
